How Many Spare Mags Are 'Enough'?

I have 5 rifles that take AR mags and I have about 65 pmags and about 15 10 round pistol mags and about 10 USGI mags.

Does your home defense plan include a strategy to tip a precarious wall of PMags over onto a home invader as a last line of defense?

Or maybe you're making one of those artsy alternative homes out of commonly found plastic objects like milk Jugs.

What is the 'R' insulation of a PMag anyway?

If you pack a 'pmag' with roofing nails and run a strip of C4 on the back side it could double as a claymore :)

The 'r value' on a 'uv' exposed pmag would be around 6.8 + - ;)

Re post on subject!
I say buy as many as you can!
Remember you have to carry them, keep in mind this is for the doomsday scenario.
If it's your go to rifle = have at least 25, remember they will wear out after several years or decades depending on use, and you may not have the option of replacing them either in the future.

Also have a minimum of 5000 rounds in reserve at all times per gun. ( I'm breaking my own rule right now) But carrying all of that is a lot, you will need some transportation or a good hideout.

The more loaded mags you carry the less mobile you will be as well, I say be able to have access between 8 to 14 mags depending on your current physical condition and stuff the rest with ammo in a back pack.

If there is war, you will probably be killed before even unloading your primary mags anyway.

Look.

Its Quatto

Too funny!!..

Good point on the weight of the mag comments, the lighter they are, the more you can carry..

It is better to have more mags than less, Strict minimum would be 5 for each firearm. Personally I'd say 10 each would be sufficient in any situation and you don't have to carry them all, you can cache a few too.

LOL! I love how some guys are hoarding mags - "Doomsday scenario" :) BTW, my rule of thumb is 1x spare mag for my hunting rifles and I have a total of 10 mags for my AR-15 and I thought that was excessive. Why would you need over 50 mags? Most soldiers would struggle to carry 20 mags (with their other kit of course) Are you planning on outfitting your neighborhood platoon?

Remember, just because you own 50 mags doesn't mean you have to carry them all. Much like the pistol primer drought or the .223 drought. Those who stocked up suffered much less than those who didn't. Without a function magazine(and ammo, but that's a fixed variable required by all firearms) your semi auto is useless.

Plus, where they are valuable even now their trade value increases greatly in the absence of availability coupled with a sharp increase in demand.

Barter rules.
