Hunt Camp Rules

No tying the tent door closed if I have been drinking, cause I may pee on the door when I am trying to stick my #### through the hole in the dark.

Just the unwritten rules for the hunt camps I attend.

Common sense applies in all cases.

Never been issues since all who attend are close friends or related by blood or law.

here's a question regarding meat distrbution........there are 3 of us in our hunting party the owner of the land does not share his tag the other two of us do.....The land owner was there when a doe was taken and would not tag the deer with his anterless tag so our other partner had to tag the deer with his tag......how would you deal with a situation like this?....

Thanks guys, lots of points to consider.

Just to clarify the "rules" thing, we're not looking to run a boot camp, guidelines is a better word. Enjoying the hunt is the main thing.

Our camp has grown and with no guidelines we seem to be running in different directions. We have guys bring new hunters in that no one knows about, one even mid week.

We butcher our own deer and it was always common knowledge that everyone shows up to help, some think that means come for a couple of hours have a beer and pick up meat the next day.

We have a good group but we are lacking some organization and if we don't address this now, we'll end up losing hunters.

landowner makes the rules. Dont like the rules find some other place to hunt. We share with everyone that goes hunting. We even make "care" packages for those that usually hunt with us but couldn't make it

Ya true enough the sad part is I had to pass up Doe's all season when our other partner was not hunting because I knew the land owner would not tag the deer if our partner wasnt there the day I shot the Doe we would have been skunked....because of this guys I only shoot bucks but I apply for an anterless tag every year ####......maybe time to invest in my own property.....oh ya the jerk who doesnt share his tag is my dad.....lol...he's kinda crazy.

You may notice that certain members do alot more than others. Some do more work, some do more sleeping and some do more drinking. As long as the main necessities are looked after, you should be fine. (And the common sense thing..)

We just have our moose gang, and it's a $hitload of work! It's like running a frikken business....but it functions and it's fun. Some members contribute a lot more than others...and everyone knows who's who in the zoo.

The ones who contribute the least are generally the ones who coincidentilly complain the most.

Wow. Some of the 'rules' kinda make goin off to the woods to get away from the daily grind kinda pointless, lol...

I agree with Gatehouse, why hunt with guys you need rules with....

We have no issues, as we all get along... if frustration mounts, just leave it be for the night and tomorrows a new day. We all drink in the evening and go to bed when you are tierd, if you dont go to bed and hung over well thats your own fault, we take turns cooking and cleaning and if one guy cooks 3 nights in a row oh well, who cares... I hunt with family and friends I have grown up with my whole life from 16 year old cousins to 65-70 year old uncles..

I hate rules like getting told when and what to do, and if I had to hunt around them I would not go to camp, I would just Hunt solo.
A group can not function without organization, which in and of itself means rules/guidelines/understanding - whatever you want to call it. I call BS.

Well our camp has been "functioning" for almost 30 years now that way!

Question to you, "What would happen if a camp member showed up with 4 buddies you've never met, to hunt for a week or 2? Yeah, and they're not sharing their tags either."

If he's the kinda guy that would do that he wouldn't have been in the camp to start with!

Gotta agree with Sr here.

With our gang for instance, if someone wanted to bring another hunter as a "guest", it would have to be approved by the members of the gang prior to the hunt.

Yes & your member would have known enough to ask 1st & only if he knew there was enough room & the gang in general was interested in aquiring a new member. :)

Rules? We hunt to get away from rules.

I would like to comment on the word "gutter" and the designation of this person.

Simple. You shoot an animal, you gut it. If you are not up to the task, learn to do it or get your meat at safeway.

There. I'm sure I've hurt someone's feelings by now........;)
