They have been legal game here in New Brunswick for many years. You used to be able to hunt them year-round, but they lately restricted them to just duck season.
I've shot a few. They're large birds, but dumb, and easy to shoot because they have very predictable flight.
We used to legally be allowed to hunt them with a rifle or lead shot, but that may no longer be the case.
The boys up in Miramichi used to lay into dozens of them, and I think that's why they restricted the season. People got tired of cormorant shooting at the same time as the striped bass explosion each spring.
FWIW, they taste just like an eider. Not bad, if cleaned correctly. Very popular game bird in Scandinavia, I think, and if you go on youtube, you can see guys hunting them there over the same kind of decoys as seen in the earlier post. FWIW, I don't think I'd eat very many, as I suspect they are full of PCBs.
