Hunting Cormorants. Great wingshooting opportunity. Target rich enviroment. SAFSAC

I got kicked off FB for a month for saying it was legal to shoot them and throw away the bodies.

Whenever I'm sentenced to FB jail, I challenge their decision. Lately I've been getting off with time served.

I think how they work it, is if you offend someone, they make a complaint and it's reviewed by FB at your request.

I guess even they understand that too many posters are far to sensitive.

We have large numbers in the the summer in Saskatchewan some friends and I have talked about shooting them but we are under the impression they are protected here in Saskatchewan I best look in to this mater

Playing in FB is totally askin' fer a pile of poop to be heaped upon ye. f:P:

Save a fish, shoot a cormorant! Great opportunity to sharpen the wing shooting skills and control an invasive species. Just wondering if any of our community participated in the fairly new shooting opportunity?

You have to explain more about how you do this eradication. Do the birds come in to land near the decoys? Do you go out in boats to shoot them? Do they travel in flocks and you can set up in one place and expect to get a whole pile in a day? Is there a disposal requirement for the carcasses? Do you have to use stupid steel shot?

Darn I love doing varmint eradication. We shoot pigeons, gophers and coyotes. They are all good fun and each presents their own challenge.

It seems to only ever work one way. They are dicks.

How do you challenge them? Seem to be faceless robots and Gen ZZZ in charge. My last suspension took about a day and a half to come into effect which makes me think it was an actual human decision (I asked if a set of parents who were convicted of torturing their 14 year old son to death might not be considered for the noose, thinking the wording in the form of a question would pass the software).

They are classified as a migratory bird. Same as ducks and geese. So non toxic shot is required as well as the federal duck stamp. We hunt off the shoals created by the cormorants. We don’t shoot them where they roost but the shoals they sit on after gorging on fish! The decoys work amazingly well at drawing them close enough for great shooting. Many would land if we let them but wing shooting is what we enjoy. The population has exploded and they have started invading all the inland lakes. We use two boats quite often for picking up the carnage. Sometimes we hunt two groups on shoals that are close to each other. It covers a wider section of water and creates more opportunities. They’re a fairly tough bird that requires good wing shooting skills. Big flocks to smaller groups are not unusual but many singles will be encountered as well.We have acreage and a big tractor so all of ours get buried and become fertilizer.

They have been legal game here in New Brunswick for many years. You used to be able to hunt them year-round, but they lately restricted them to just duck season.

I've shot a few. They're large birds, but dumb, and easy to shoot because they have very predictable flight.

We used to legally be allowed to hunt them with a rifle or lead shot, but that may no longer be the case.

The boys up in Miramichi used to lay into dozens of them, and I think that's why they restricted the season. People got tired of cormorant shooting at the same time as the striped bass explosion each spring.

FWIW, they taste just like an eider. Not bad, if cleaned correctly. Very popular game bird in Scandinavia, I think, and if you go on youtube, you can see guys hunting them there over the same kind of decoys as seen in the earlier post. FWIW, I don't think I'd eat very many, as I suspect they are full of PCBs.

Cant you still hunt them from March 1 - mid Sept with a NB varmint permit? Use to shoot a few every summer while kayaking & any that passed by while duck hunting.

Everything you asked is outlined in the Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary, online.
