I was just thinking that there is a wealth of hunting experience available on this site, and there should be a thread devoted to passing along some of the things we do that work.

For eg; I always tape the muzzle of my rifles (with electricians tape) to keep out snow, dirt, etc. Not long ago I started having the tape a couple of inches longer on one side, so that after I shoot through it, I can take it off and re-apply it. That's a time when you are likely to be putting your rifle down or leaning it against something and stuff is likely to find its way into the muzzle.

Never go hunting with Chaney(sp?)

Put at least as much time in choosing your hunting partners as you do your firearm!

OK, along with your first example and considering your line of endeavor, here's something else that works well for me. The small ballon like coverings used to keep a lightly bandaged finger dry. At least I think that's what they're for. They're quick and work well.:)

1. Have a compass and know how to use it.

2. I have pop-up caps on one of my scopes but they're always popping up when I don't want them too. What I find is better and cheaper and just as quick to release is home-mad scope covers made out of a strip of bicycle inner tube, cut thin along the sides and wide enough to cover the scope lens on the ends.

When you are out there don't wander for ever. More game is taken while sitting on ones a** than when standing on your feet. Don't fill the thermos with whiskey either.:D

it is a good idea not to get too warm and comfortable either. Because then you will fall asleep only to wake up and see that the elk herd just walked past your stand and is now on posted property laughing.

When you take a dump in the woods, keep your rifle very close.

Truer words have not been spoken!

Keep your rifle close

and the toilet paper closer!

Its a real ##### walking with all your hunting clothes around your ankles

If you spook a big whitetail buck, have one guy dog it's tracks while you hide close downwind where you first seen it. Most times the buck will circle right around not far from where you first seen it. Be ready to shoot.

...and don't shoot your buddy. Friendly fire, just isn't.

Fresh tracks: When you are smelling a hoof print and the turds are falling on the back of your neck.
I carry two knives.
A dull knife is just as good as no knife.
Don't let the owner of a dull knife use your sharp one; if he doesn't know how to sharpen a knife he probably doesn't know how to use it either.
Judge a person by how dull his knife is; there is a correlation.
