Scout after the season in areas you wanted to hunt this season past. Will give you a real good idea of what to expect in the fall.
Also glassing fields in the evening, late july early august may spot you a buck to hunt.
Never climb a tree without 3 points of contact at all times. In extreme cold be aware limbs may break easy under your weight. Always wear a safety harness or belt.
Have a close look at the lay of the land , wind does some weird things, can be in your face, and 100 yds in front of you its blowing towards the animal.
Air flow when its calm is also important, as the old saying goes, hunt high in the morning, low in the evening (air flow up and down hills)
Always check the chamber of your rifle in front of your partner,even if you know its empty. (at the truck) Will add to this as brain cell warms up.
When looking at topos or areals, look for brooks that finger out, swamps close to hardwood ridges , heavy softwood butted up against hardwood .
Animal down, #### locker, piss bag, and tarsal glands;
Be careful not to get any of it on the meat .
