Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

About time I posted here. This is my 640 in 30-06:

It was supposed to be a donor for a custom build - based on Anthony's modest description. After I cleaned off the grime, it turned out to be too nice. I'd love to have a M70-style safety installed, though.

Well, I bought the stock blank at a gun show in Kamloops BC and the seller offered to run it through his stock duplicator using one of his own stocks as a pattern. As it turned out to be a nice piece of wood I had Bill Leeper finish and checker it for me. He did a beautiful job.

Well congratulations. It has a very pleasing line, to my eye. The wrist is just about perfect and the direction of the grain is spot on. If you have the blank seller's name, I'd appreciate a PM.
 
Hi again, a friend just got his Dad's .270 and would like some info. I think it's a 3000 Crown Grade?

Serial # 3817xx...made in 1970?

Nice Bausch & Lomb 1.5-6 A20 scope on it. Nicely coloured beech wood, love those blondes :)

Looks like your friend have a 1900 Monte Carlo Lyx, or also known on the American continent as 8000 Crown Grade.
 
Thanks for the info Baribal. I didn't see that model at the Skydevaaben site. We're fortunate to have you as a resource on this site.

So I assume I was mistaken in my earlier post and the stock is actually walnut? The Skydevaaben page mentions walnut as the wood used in the Monte Carlo models in the 1900 action made during that time period.

Ye, it is superior grade french walnut, with a high gloss epoxy type coating. There were a few 1640 made with beechstocks, but I never heard or saw a 1900 having anything else than walnut stock.
 
Well here we go again, this is one in 30-06 I'm looking at purchasing. The fellow selling it has a brother that is a smith, it's been refinished, checkering recut and all metal reblued. The one pic below shows dust on it that looks like pitting, believe me it is in excellent condition.

Now for the part where I get corrected, I'm thinking it's either a 1000 or 1100 but it could be a 640, how's that for leaving it wide open? ;) The serial number 1271xx dates it in 1951.

Not qualified to be doing any correcting, but that sure looks 640 to me.

A beautifull rifle there Knute, commercial FN98 from the golden years.

I'd grab it, and enjoy ever time you cycle that bolt.

Were it mine, those scope rings would get lower, and the rear iron sight would return.

I'd like the rear sight back on it as well.

The problem with lowering the scope is that wing safety just barely engages as it is. If the scope were lower it wouldn't engage at all.

Recall from somewhere (probably Trade ex desciptions) that Later models had a left side two position low scope safety?.
For what its worth, Brownells sells non originals.

Some rear sights were fixed standing leaf, and some ladder adjustable.
Looks like a shorter or smaller objective scope my be needed to clear the rear sight with low scope mounts. A classic Weaver El Paso, or Lyman perma-center would both look, and work, very well IMO.

BTW ..... congrats on making "member".
 
From the pictures, I'd guess for a recent import rifle, so it won't be a 1000/1100 series, but rather, as said before, a 640 series with beech stock.

The action is a late commercial FN M/98, pre Supreme. The side safeties only appeared on FN action with the Supreme, which HVA did not use, as they previously introduced their 1640 (1953 vs 1956 for the Supreme).

The original rear sight for this rifle would have been a fixed, block type one, but many replaced them at purchasing with an adjustable one.
 
Just got my 1640 back from the gunsmith (Gunco in Ottawa).

He brought the trigger pull down to 3.5 pounds from 6.5.

He also put on a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad.

I'll take some pics and post later in the week...
 
Depending on year of manufacture and caliber, it's either a 1640K or a 2100. Both models were the same, with 600mm barrels and no checkering, the difference being that the 1640K was made 1962 to 1967 in both 6.5X55 and 30-06 and the 2100 was made 1962 - 1965 in .270 Win and '06. The Laponia model was also similar, but stamped with the model name on it (and made for export).
These two models may also show with a beech stock.

1. Its a 6.5 X 55.
2. I looked up the year of manufacture based on the serial number and got 1967.
3. Not that it means a whole lot, but the registration certificate says "1640".

So I think it is a 1640K. (I'm always forgetting the 'K'.)

Yes, I couldn't quite get my toes out of the picture...

The registration means nothing, as the CFC don't know a thing about many guns, and Husqvarna is part of it; most 640 / 46 / 146 / are registered as .Mauser Sporters. models... Most 1640 are registered as being '1600' just because it's more convenient.
Your rifle is definitely a 1640K.
