I am looking for a .223 ranch gun

Are you [a farmer]? Because I feel if you were, you would know what kind of role this gun would have and you would never assign it to a 2500+ rifle, no matter how well suited it might be. Maybe I should have stated my budget to be $1000 max than people would stop recommending Tavors and XCR's.

I have the money to go out and buy either or both if I was really feeling reckless. I am not going to do that.
I know exactly the role a farm gun is. The Tavor comes out the door with me every morning with my coffee and my lunch. It bounces around in the tractor, the truck, the combine, slung over my back, and everything else in between. The compactness and accuracy are absolutely perfect for any sort of vehicle use.

As for it being too pricey, guns are tools meant to be used.

I disagree with your rifle choice, but I am incredibly jealous of your life!

I'm not buying a tavor for this job period. I'm not the only one who will be using it. I don't care if you carry yours around like a cell phone I have no interest in doing that, I don't know anybody else who actually does so that's your particular eccentricity.

Yes I know I had a AR180B, But you said its the only 2MOA Capable out of the "list"

I'm trying to make the OP re think his choices. Mini14 Target be the only gun on that list that will fit everything minus limited to 5 rounds. Cost, Accuracy, Reliable, Less Plastic.

But CSA will use AR mags with a 85$ adapter and will shoot MOY ( Min of Yote ) Most aftermarket support. Good enough for the CZ army since 58 I guess its good. Just in a different cal.

Seems like its basing it on other opinions, then personal. Ive shot all but the RL1 and Mini14. But Shot M14/M1 Carbines.

I am unsure of the accuracy of AR180b's and there for never commented on the accuracy of the rifle. I have never been so lucky as to even see one at a gun show.

In my previous comment I was simply pointing out none of the rifles op posted about suited heis criteria for various reasons, and I refrained from making comment on the 2 guns I have never shot, 1 of which I have never seen. I was not suggesting the AR1180b or mr1 are capable of any degree of accuracy better than a scattergun.

Hes not telling you too, nor am I! We are simply counteracting the individuals who think it cant or should not be done. There seems to be alot of people trying to read to far into others posts in this thread!

Do you own one?
I just sold mine. I would tell anyone to buy a mini before an MR1.. for many reasons

Yeah I own one, I love it. The only thing i dont like is the low comb of the stock, I need a good cheek rise to get a good eye through the scope. I have not had any problems with Magpul magazines, they fit like a glove. I have not had one single malfunction yet, but I may only have a little over 1000 rounds down the pipe, so who knows what will happen in the next 1000.

First time I tried a mini, it kept jamming up.....no fun for me.

Pretty sure that's still an AR variant

It's not supposed to be and the canadian market was supposed to get a variation that doesn't take AR magazines.
So the rumour goes.
So, non-res pump action with proprietary magazines = no mag limit.
Personally, I'd rather it take cheap AR magazines even if they have to be limited to 5 or 10, then take a unique magazine that may cost god knows what and be out of stock 99% of the time.

Echo maybe you should explain more on how and what you are going to use this for?
Hunting and what? Plinking? Varminting? Target shooting?
Will you be using irons or a scope? What distances? What size targets?

I have owned and used and still own;
AR180s-getting pricey and hard to find, easy to get a scope mounted
SU16-more accurate than anyone gives it credit for
T97- one of the most accurate out of the box rifles going
XCR- can easily be scoped and very accurate but highly priced
Swiss Arms-$$$ and waiting legally
VZ58- out since you want .223
CSA58 in .223- again very accurate but more difficult to scope
Tavor-accurate, handy, scopable and pricey

and other rifles too.
I have found each one to be utterly reliable and usually under 2.0 moa, or at least better than I am capable of.

You mentioned that this will be a shared rifle, how?

When you are talking about bad ergos, is it because what you have been trained and taught on, or what someone told you?
I started on the FN. Using a Robinson XCR with a left handed cocking handle was like putting on an old pair of slippers.
At the same time, having friends be more attentive in how they use a rifle because they are using an unorthodox platform like a T97 might sometimes be a positive thing.

I would also seriously think about what your shooting ability and experience is as well.
For $1,500, most shooters I know would benefit from buying a thousand dollar rifle and getting a crate of .223 for another $400-500 and getting some serious trigger time.

I can only think of one reason, price. I like the mini 14's, but I ended up buying the MR1 because it's built well and shoots well. The rifle hasn't shown vulnerability in anything except aftermarket support, which is also a particularly low point on the Mini.

I have owned number of mini's. Never ever seen one jam.

I just purchased a lightly used Mini 14 off the EE. Looking forward to shooting it.Was holding out for an mr1 but just couldn't find one wit a collapsible stock for a decent price. Mini will be an easy to sell purchase if I get bored with it . will be my first semi auto NR center fire.Love the EE! !

i had one of these years ago before it was stolen......loved it!!
likely an option that isn't available anymore?

I'm not a hunter, just like plinking at the local range. And I might be way out to lunch here, But have you ever considered looking at an SKS with a Tapco stock? Cheap gun to buy, non restricted, reliable as dirt, amo is fairly inexpensive. For a beater ranch gun, it might be a good alternative. Availablity is also good I even noticed that some vendors are selling them with after market stocks ( like Tapco) for around $400.
Just a thought.
