I finally decided, my 1911 on steroids is a Coonan 357 mag....

Check out the shooter's face slowly disappearing off the vid with every shot.

There are a few semi-autos chambering .375 mag but the Coonan is the only one in the 1911 platform I know of. I hope to try one some day. I too like things that are a little off-beat. My dad would poo-poo it though.

Blasphemy!!!

You have just antagonized eleventeen jillion owners of .22 LR autos.:p
:d

Rimfires are exempt, I should've said rimmed centerfire ctgs don't go with semi-autos. ;)

I'd actually like to see what the target looked like. :)

They are a few success with the rimmed cgt, The Desert Eagle 357/44/50 and the Coonan and maybe the Auto 44 mag are examples... My DE in 44 mag has been of total reliability and quite accurate... JP.

Personally, the Desert Eagle behemoths have never much interested me.

Just looked at the pic of the Coonan as advertised on line from the Wanstall's ad.

Very interested to see better pics of this pistol & a range report when it appears & is shot, though.

All auto mag cartridges (AMP) are rimless straight wall cases (.308 or 30-06 cut to 1.30"), both the .357 AMP & .41 JMP use the same case necked down to accept the smaller bullet.

Anybody know if they altered the design from the original Coonan? Or is this an exact reissue?

some slight differences - barrels, mags and rear sights I believe. maybe a few more

and just to note: the original model changed. There is a model A and B (model As had linked barrels, model Bs and new guns are linkless)

Maybe you can post a vid of you doing rapid fire once you get is so that we can see how it is done :)

Also so that we can see that honkin' gun in action!!

Looking forward to bring it to range, should be here in a week, If the cold not to bad, i will make a video, at least a table top one... JP.

Watched the video. Want the gun :(

I'm interested in learning how the ergos compare with a regular 1911. If it's a slab in the hand...not interested

the grip is much deeper then a normal 1911...a little better then a desert eagle in 357 but still very thick front to back. It's not quite as wide as the DE, but definitely slab like

Quick 2 min review of Coonan by Colion Noir. I also ordered one from Wanstalls, expected delivery in spring 2015. Cannot wait!!

It is not as bad a people think. this mag well view gives a pretty good idea.

the other pic makes it look almost the same which is not really the case (probably because the wraparound grip adds depth to the 1911) but we are not talking huge difference in circumference. i should probably measure to check.

I think some people are initially thrown off by the size because they have cut their teeth on the 1911, and expect the Coonan to feel pretty much the same, which it definitely doesn't. but it is not that big, easy to get use to and is certainly not uncomfortable for anyone with average sized hands. I've have pretty average sized hands and this pic shows me holding the Coonan.
