I Like 20" ARs-Does That Make Me a Freak?

Used to have a Bushmaster HBAR set up just like that. Loved shooting it from the bench, but found it to be way too front-heavy with the free-float tube for anything else, though.
I did fine doing 500m rundowns with it, one gets used to the weight.
I used to put lead in the stock to balance it, then I switched to the PRS stock which is naturally heavier already to keep it balanced.
There is nothing wrong with 20" AR's - but by my reasoning they are restricted regardless, so I would rather have a full length Swiss arms for non-restricted fun and keep my AR as an SBR. If Ar's could be non-restricted with a longer barrel I would certainly change out the barrel on my upper.
Mine's all Colt Canada, but swapped out the stock for a rifle-length buffer tube and Ace skeleton stock. Still planning on turning it into a half-assed clone of my issue C7A1 from back in the early 90s, if I can ever find my old A2 fixed stock. Already gives me a nice nostalgic feel as is

I love my 20" AR. Aero Precision upper/handguard on a DD lower with an ATRS .223 Wylde barrel. It is heavy and took a while to get used to coming from a 10.3" CQB rig. Not sure if an 18" barrel would be a significant, noticeable difference. I'm used to the 20" now and don't see a reason to go smaller. It has proven to be very accurate and consistent out to 600 yards with the right loads.
I also have a DD mk18 10.3 cqb rig that is fun for completely different reasons. Between these two, I don't really find myself wishing for anything in between.

a youngin here, i say 20" gun all the way, dabbled with plenty of different setups. this is the one I settled with.
If i had the money i would throw a elcan or acog on in.
Big fan of the C7 i think its one of the smartest variants of an AR15
Going to be starting my 20" AR build soon. Biggest issue I'm running into is finding someone who sells a 20" barrel upper. Finding fixed buttstocks is a bit of a pain too. Either out of stock or they don't sell them.
Was interested in purchasing the 20" Norinco from Leverarms, but wanted to try building one first. Just gotta wait on the lower receiver with the parts to come in first from Wolverine Supplies.

Buying a used one on the EE could be an option as folks downsize sometimes or build your own by buying used components like I did. Depending on how "accurate" you want it you can spend the amount you want on a quality BCG and barrel assembly/gas assembly and put one together. Regarding fixed stocks I found 3 basic choices, standard A2, Magpul PRS ($400) and Magpul MOE Rifle ($90). I have the PRS and love it. I also just (yesterday) picked up an MOE Rifle stock to test. Much cheaper and lighter. There may be others from different manufacturers but am not familiar with them.
While I think that shorter barrels are better for most uses, I do have a soft spot for the original 20" pencil barrel configuration: a minimalist, lightweight rifle.
The 20" A2 barrel, however, is a monument to bureaucratic stupidity. It isn't just heavier; it is heavier at the wrong end! One of the reasons it was developed is that it was believed that barrels were frequently bent by rough handling, as they were failing to pass the bore straightness gauge. It later turned out that the real cause was that a burr left by drilling/reaming the gas port causing heavy copper fouling. Once the "bent" barrels were thoroughly de-coppered, they all passed the gauge.

the ACE ARFX fixed skeleton stock is also nice.
That MK18 with the can is a thing of beauty.
