IDF M14 parts kits picture thread!

Received my IDF kit yesterday. Standard profile barrel kit.
Winchester barrel manufactured March 1962
HR trigger housing with SA hammer
SA op rod
TRW bolt

There was enough Israeli dirt to start a farm stuck on the parts. Cleaned up okay. The barrel is in pretty good shape. Not much throat erosion, although the gas port is tear drop shaped from plenty of use. Still usable. One thing that has me a bit baffled is the exposed portion of the barrel has the Parkerizing worn off. I wonder how this could happen.IMG_4417.jpg

Handling in training or in operation out in the field in Israel.

Remember these where issued as a piece of kit, with an average age of 50 years or so.

You should have seen a FN-C2 that I was issued once in Pet back in the 80's for training, yours looks new compared to it.

Ahhh, the good old days,,,,,FN's in the Forces!

I figured it was from use. That sure is a lot of wear, but if the rifles were used for 50 years that would make sense. More character for sure.
 
1985 until the mid 90's where the hey day's of parts for M-14's.

At that point in time, I thought U.S. G.I. parts would never dry up.

Just like the Garand's of the same time era, they came and went with a blink.

Get em while you can.

I waited for another 16 years or so for these.

Another thing to remember when messing with these, are you a Collector and Shooter or just a shooter?

I'm a collector first and then shooter.

The bluing loss and parts brand mixups are part of their service life.

I personally won't be switching anything around unless it is not serviceable.

It is sad enough as a collector already that we could not get them with their original receivers.

I will be dropping mine into a Dominion Arms Chinese made receiver.

I have built my fare share of M-14 clones over the years with Chinese receivers, no problems when you find a good one.

My kit should arrive Monday.

I bought one of those DPMS AR-15's that where used in Iraq by a security company just have have something that was used over in the big sand pit.

I cleaned her up and she is staying as issued with painted numbers on the butt stock.

Here's my kit a standard kit, all HRA parts that I can make out. Date on the barrel is really hard to make out (6 of 81?)

Looks like you got a solid spring guide; some of us have perforated ones. So interesting seeing the mix of bits everyone got.
 
Picked my kits up today. 1 Heavy barrel and 1 standard barrel.

The HB came with these parts:
Med weight SAK barrel marked NM
TRW Bolt
H&R Op Rod
SA Trigger with H&R Hammer

The Standard barrel came with these parts:
TRW Barrel
Win Bolt
Win Op Rod
H&R Trigger

All parts show a bit of wear, but obviously have tons of life left in them.
The standard weight TRW barrel is absolutely minty!
The HB's bore looked pretty bad when I first ran a patch down it. I thought it had some serious issues/pitting etc. so I decided to give it a good scrub. I tried all the usual bore cleaners and it still looked rough. Then I hit it with the JB bore paste...about 5 sessions...and it came out very nice...what a relief! I though I had a bad one there for about an hour, but with some elbow grease it looks great...whew!

Is there anyone trading out their parts to match their kit to a single mfg? Or am I the only one looking to do that?

I'm looking for a TRW OpRod, Barrel and Rear Sight. I can trade the same in Winchester, H&R and H&R.
 
I was planning on building a idf sniper clone, but this stock uggg. It's a hideous abortion. Instead I think I'll use the usgi wood stock I got from wolverine, scope it and bed it. But having a 1961 barrel I'm not thrilled about, will have to get it gauged before I do anything. Bring side the op rod guide is on super tight.

You are unfortunately looking to trade for the most sought after manufacturer. Unless you sweeten the deal I think you might have a hard time finding people to swap major TRW parts 1 for 1 for another MFG...
