Not sure why private "for profit" ranges would not encourage or even participate in the formation of IDPA/IPSC clubs as a way of increasing traffic to their ranges.
Bob
We have always encouraged our membership to set up and regulate "leagues" as they see fit and do not charge or otherwise profit from the leagues as the participants are already members of TSE. We only asked for $50 from non-members participating in the training that was proposed to compensate us for the loss of revenue for shutting down a bay for a day and a half. If someone has a problem with that, they should take it up with us, not attack the poor guy trying to organize the event.
Currently we have an IPSC league and until recently we were on our way to having an actual IDPA league.
However, as demonstrated very clearly in this thread saga, the controllers of IDPA in some provinces (such as ours), have eagerly worked to orchestrate their own "kingdoms" based on certain agendas and as such, IDPA (the sport) and it’s Alberta coordinator, as it stands are not welcome in our facility until apologies for this mistreatment are made to certain people.
I’ve never seen such a display of short-sighted, myopic self centred game-manship as has been orchestrated here.
Let me be clear. In my view, IDPA first drew a line in the sand; they complained about our activities and then, asked us to join their game. Not the other way around: The Alberta coordinator never, not once, approached our facility to join IDPA. He, only, after a visit to observe one of our league nights, complained that our league was operating improperly and then we heard later, I’m assuming after the “official report” was sent, through the “National” rep, that we must join or immediately remove the IDPA logo from our website or else face the wrath of the legal beagles from HQ (my synopsis)…
Fair enough, we weren’t an IDPA sanctioned club and the logo is trademarked, so we did comply… However... Great way to mend fences and promote the sport, eh? It's not as though the IDPA Alberta Coordinator doesn't know who we are either; he used to work here, but now he has his own "shooting school" business running.... That leads to a number of interesting questions in itself, but we'll leave that alone for now.
Remember, this whole thread was started because one of our members wished to increase the proficiency in fellow shooters by bringing in an instructor for everyone’s benefit. His efforts were quickly distorted and this thread speaks the volumes for itself.
If IDPA Alberta was so interested in promoting the sport, why did the organizer, after actually inviting one of our members out to shoot, send him packing because “they had enough shooters”? After driving over an hour to get to the shoot, I don’t think you’ll be seeing him again, or any other shooters of whom this guy has contact with.
It’s sure nice to see that we haven’t forgotten how to eat our weak…
At least we here at TSE still know how to promote and bring in more new shooters into the Calgary shooting community then these few individuals can probably scare away!
Do I sound annoyed? Yes I am... These guys tried to do something good and all they got was #### on!
Just my 2 cents
