hungrybeagle ,
I am not sure how POCO deals with the diffrent shooting diciplines they have there but to shoot at the club (range) I belonged to you had to be a member of that range. I would think a drop in fee would be applicable for non range members wanting to shoot a club level IDPA match (on top of the regular 5.00 or so target etc. cost). I understand the Range is providing a service and should be compensated for such. As I have read above this is really not the issue.

A match fee is typically the same for everyone. A sub club is an insured entity within a club. Unless POCO is totally different than my club, events like matches are covered. So no "special" fee for non members who attend is normally needed. If it is, it should be worked into the match fee. Now that's for actual matches, practice sessions are different and can require fees for guests for insurance.

I agree :)

For me it is a bit off putting when I see tiered match fees for 'members' and 'non-members'.

Matches fees should be the same across the board.

I'm not a member at PoCo, but I have no problem with the few "tiered match fees" that I've seen for two reasons:

1. It is basically a perk for members, kind of like stores that have 10% discounts for people with membership cards. They're not saying "We're going to charge more for non-members" but instead saying "We're going to give our members a discount." It used to put me off that I'd go to a PoCo match, and club members would get free pizza, but I'm long since over it.

2. It is the PoCo members that do all the work for the match. Setup, fixing steel, building props, teardown, cleanup, picking up garbage. They volunteer their time and labour. Often, they travel to the range the day before the match, which incurs extra travel costs. Where I used to live, it would cost me $10 in gas alone just to drive up to my own range, and there were many, many days where I would go up just to do work, cleanup, repairs, and didn't have time to do ANY shooting. (In fact, I've gone up to my range as a worker more than I have as a range user in the last 5 years, excluding matches). I do not begrudge the club recognizing them for their dedication. I just don't feel any guilt watching them go out to tear down stages after a match while I sit around and wait for stats. :p

I have just recently purchased a handgun, and have been coming out to the Wednesday night practices for IDPA in Chilliwack (I live out here, so it makes sense to me).

I have yet to get to a 1st Sunday match yet (scheduling issues), but look forward to being able to do that in May.

As a "New Guy", the group out here has been incredibly welcoming to me. In fact, before I even had a handgun, Ken (who I also took my non- and restricted course from) had told me to come out, and he would make sure that I got to shoot. My first night, I got to shoot 5 different pistols, from 3 different people. That just blew me away, that these guys would allow a total newbie, with little to no experience with a handgun, play with their $600 'babies' ... words can not express how incredible that made me feel. :welcome:

To anyone who is hesitating to drive out to Chilliwack, us 'Wack-o's drive West all the time to head into the 'big city', take a nice Sunday drive and come out to our neck of the woods sometime. We probably won't even bite :D

Thank you for the PM invitation to sign the petition. If it is on Range 7 this Sunday I will sign after the IPSC match.

Best,
Mike

For everyones info, i put up the petition form at the bulletin board just now. So far...a few people have already signed up. There wasn't a really big crowd at smallbore night (probably due to the weather) but there were signups. There were people who had never heard of IDPA butwere mighty interested.

So, for all those interested, the form is already on the board at Range 7. For those who've already signed up...thanks for doing your part in helping IDPA come to Poco!

Apples and Oranges, Gentleman. As I understand it BB is a requirement of PCDHFC in order for IDPA to shoot there. If the 'Puppet Master' can't get his hand in your pocket one way, he'll figure out another and $50 is ridiculous, gentlemen.
I haven't ridden a bicycle in decades, but I still CAN, same applies to holsters (except holsters are MUCH easier) !
ALL IDPA proceeds, after costs, have already been promised to POCO . The PROBLEM is the 'Puppet Master' can't get his hands on any of it. THAT'S why it's not going to happen. HOWEVER, by insisting on BB , 'holster qualifications', 'range familiarisation's', 'tiering', etc., etc., ad nauseoum , HE can !
By the way 'Tiered' system was tried decades ago, result ?, no shooters from other clubs, we go to theirs, they come to ours, same price, NO 'Day card', No B.S.. easy, AND 'friendly' (OR come over to my house... I'll only charge you $20 for a beer) !
I'M all FOR IDPA at PCDFHC , but I'm NOT paying ANYBODY $.50 or $50 to tell me I know how to draw from a holster safely.
You get rid of 'Puppet Masters' B.S. 'add-on' fees and I'll HAPPILY re-new my 20-25 year membership at POCO.
Until then 'Best of Luck', Gentlemen

Drew, I thought if you ever had a BB in the past (quote from Bob) you are good to go with IDPA. Which means there is no mention of the BB being current or not. Anyway if IDPA is voted in Poco, it will run under IDPA rules and there is no mention of BB as a requirement in IDPA rules.

The emphasis is to get a petition from the members to the BOD to accept IDPA in Poco. That is the first step. The BOD will have a meeting on 12 April and the indication is that the anti will not want IDPA at Poco. But if they are faced with the wishes of the general membership then voting IDPA out of Poco will require real good reasoning.

I can think of one excuse and that is lack of range facilities but everyone knows that is a non issue as Poco has seven ranges and according to 2010 calendar, there are ample free time for many ranges. In fact the ranges are really under utilized.

Get as many members to sign the petition to voice the members' preference is the proper democratic method.

Let's not jump the gun. Work with the present issue first.

Petition Update

I have received 7 names/numbers so far. Thank you to those who responded.

The Petition Sign-up sheet posted on the Range 7 bulletin board already has some signatures. Will count them tomorrow morning when I shoot.

The Antis are working double time to drum up support, notice the 3 recent "NO" votes on the POLL.

This on-line POLL is not the determining factor whether we ge IDPA into POCO. It is the PETITION that will convince the other half of the POCO Board who are not decided against IDPA in POCO. We cannot do anything about those Directors/Members of the Board who are closed minded for whatever reason. Please read POST #189 and follow instructions on how to get your voice heard. This is the way democracy works!!!

Your name/number on the PETITION will mean you stand up for progress!!!

Drew 1664:

There is no "puppet master" at PCDHFC. Just a board of elected "volunteers" that are following the constitution and voting in rules that they believe are in the best interest of the club. No one person controls the Board. It takes a majority, multiple people, voting in favour of an motion. All money collected goes directly to PDCHFC.

You are living in the past. Time to move on, living in the past will just eat at you.

I've got to say, I'm kind of glad you're not shooting IPSC anymore.

Agreed. This has prompted me to want to get out the bike pump and do some ridin'. I might even re-read that old Robert Heinlein book, "The Puppet Masters". Looking forward to Sunday....
