If you could own only 1 WWI Rifle?

Was it not Townsend Whelan who observed "The Germans build a hunting rifle, the Americans build a target rifle, and the British build a rifle to kill people with."

Perhaps since this is period rifles, has anyone considered a Remington Rolling Block? The French used them, and we must not forget the Americans and the Mexicans, who were dragged into a War by the supposed Zimmermann Telegram.

Viva Pancho Villa.
.

My Family members used the following:

- Great Grand Uncle at 58 years old in the trenches in France used the Ross 1910 MKIII

- Grand Father served in the US Army and used the Enfield M1917 in France

- Grand Uncle used the SMLE No.1 MKIII in the last days of WW1 in France

Personnally, I prefer the SMLE. Large magazine capacity, smooth and fast handling action and very well balanced.

Touche!

And did someone mention the Winchester 1895 Russian Musket?

Yeah.... I'm a ####.

Oh man I just got to get me one.

Since it appears that oddities are allowed...

Flieger-Selbstlade-Karabiner Mondragon, Modell 1915

:D

Well then how about this... General Liu rifle, a Chinese semi auto rifle made in 1917 - never went into mass production though.

I know the Japanese sent troops to Siberia in WW1 and engaged the Kaiser's naval and colonial troops in the South Pacific. Not sure about the Chinese. In any case, I'm slippin' this in under the oddities provision.

Really really interesting!!:)

Out of value, rarity and plain coolness I would choose either the MP18 (German first ever sub machine gun) or the Mondragon rifle ( first semi-automatic rifle ).
An American made Russian issued Winchester 1895 in 7.62x54R!
No wait! Ahhhh! Too many to even consider :D

Yeah.... I'm a ####.

Tell me you don't actualy own that!
If so, yes, you are a #### :D
Also if you do, which caliber is that model chambered in?
I always had an interest in one chambered in the soviet 7.62x54R.
It would be re-assuring just to know that there is one even in the country :D

Although the M1903 is nice (I have a Mk I), the sights were much easier to use on the WW2 1903-A3 version, so that's out. The P-14 and M17 are the best of Mauser with the SMLE's #### on closing, but at only 5 rounds, I'd take a 10-round Mk1 No3 over them. But what I'd really, really want, is a ROSS!!!
