If you had a $1000 to buy a new rifle right now what would you get?

New rifle, in today’s dollar, $1k taxes in…nothing I haven’t already explored and in most cases wish I hadn’t.
Used following some of the OP’s comments;
A used Winchester pre-64 model 94 or a Marlin 336 in 30/30 or 32 special in decent shooter grade can be had for $1k no problem.
If you don’t mind one with drilled holes for a scope mount considerably under $1k.
Super collectible no, but also no anxiety to take it out and use it how you wish without the fear that one little ding or scratch will heavily impact the resell value.
A M96 in 6.5x55 can be had for under $1k but be careful shopping, there are some really great rifles available but lots that are less than great and if you need to fix something the cost can easily push you past what is recoverable.
But if you do your due diligence and select wisely you can get an amazing rifle that can be a tack driver.

A 1000 dollars isn't much (especially for a quality rifle) but if it was me and that was the budget, I'd be tempted to buy some quality accessories to aid in my shooting development such as a good range membership, binocular laser rangefinder or a kestrel wind meter, that is of course if you enjoy shooting at longer ranges.

I’m sensing yiour not a B Jury Barrel FAN 🤪 - did you have a Bad Experience/ Experiences with his barrels 🤷‍♂️
Whatever would make you think that, Jim?
Have met Bob and have had experiences with his wares.
The endorsements received set the bar at a reasonable enough height for both.
The reality made sure it remains well out of reach.

That’s pretty vague R - did you have 1 or more barrels that did not shoot good or ? 🤷‍♂️
He’s not a business sponsor on here so it’s open for chat or sent me a PM please 👍

Being old and retired, I want something nice for the money. I found this beauty at Intersurplus, and it is about 500 over budget. I guess I would need to sell a couple of my .22s to make up the short fall. Double 16 over 9.3 x 72R. Nice brush gun.

Now, if I absolutely had to stick to budget, this 12 ga over 7 x 57R would leave me a bit left over to buy scope rings.

No, but spending "more" money and waiting longer for a barrel that most certainly will shoot better would usually be considered the better option.

What barrel maker do you recommend? The best one out there? I have deep pockets and can afford the most expensive.

You claim to have been at this a while, and you don’t know who the premium barrel makers are? Again, suggest you run a quick Googler search and educate yourself.
If you truly have deep pockets and can afford the most expensive, then why in the hell are you slumming, and so obviously enamoured, with your current barrel maker of choice?

Naaaa, for a plain old FUDD, I'll just remain a true fan of Bob Jury. Thanks for all you're direct answers, to my most difficult questions.
