I'm looking into the VZ 58. Why do you like/dislike it?

I recently posted a thread asking about the best sub $1000 NR black rifles. A lot of replies mentioned the VZ 58. I looked into it a little and am liking what I see. What do you like about it? What are some things that aren't good about it?

There's not much bad about them!!!! Research them watch YouTube vids and know what there about. Keep posting on the forum ,ask for EE privilege then start watching for the right one to come along....they always come up for sale in all sorts of configurations so have a good idea of what you may want and be ready for when it comes. I have a few of them and enjoy them.
One just came up last hour....1300.00 I haven't seen to many for less these days so start saving and be ready to pounce if there is one cheaper. Most come with a bunch of stuff you may not want or need so it may be possible to out the goodies for a lesser price.
Good luck

i have had my VZ58 in 7.62x39 for nearly two years now and will never ever sell it
its not let me down once.done what it was made for.

i havent thrown thousands of rounds down the pipe.
its great bush rifle for my purposes.

Very light, reliable, and there's really no competition at that price aside from a sks with some tactical stuff added.

If you watch YouTube, even the Americans are starting to discover this rifle in the land where AK47's and AR15's reign supreme. Most people review it positively.

I haven't seen any new ones for under say $1,350 or so on sale for a long time now ..... I wish I had picked up one of the CZ858's when they were $700 ..... like the saying goes "you don't know what you got til it's gone".

It's a solid non restricted platform. IMHO don't put a scope on it, just irons or red dot. Cheap to shoot, easy to mod, tear down and clean.

I bought mine for $800 in the 'day'. And held onto to it with the added stress that it was suddenly a Prohib and I would never shoot it again.
So maybe I paid a little more for it in the long run, with added grey hairs!

I have a CZ858 and love it because it's perfect. Five round mags suck big time, but if it bothers you enough, there are a couple magwell adaptors that will allow you to use LAR mags.

They have gone up way too much in price. I remember the $699 days. Now good luck getting into one for almost twice that. There is very good aftermarket support from places like Zahal, etc. Ammo is much less than 5.56/.223 or .308. Great design and fun to shoot. Suitable for hunting too (until the libtards next bunch of rules perhaps).

Sadly , that is the issue....what ill conceived gun laws is the Liberal govt working on ; and will it affect these rifles . Only time will tell I guess ; but at least with them being non restricted , they will have a difficult time tracking them down .

5 round mags are the biggest reason my Cz858 stays in the safe when I go shooting. If I could get CZ858 Beowulf mags it would be my go to rifle.

+1. I have an 11" vz58 and the biggest issue for me is the 5 round mags, especially after getting used to 10+ rounds in my AR's. If I could (legally) use standard capacity mags my 58 would be worn out completely by now.

Adapters didn't work on my vz58, there is a lip in the receiver that prevents the STANAG body mags from seating properly. If they work on all the 858's that would be a decent answer to getting a less chicken sh!t capacity.

Personally I don't understand the big deal with only 5 rnd mags!!!!a difference of 5 rnds considering we're only using them for fun really ain't much of a bummer. Now if we were using them for life or death well then ......different story.
The same for no last round hold open !!!! Big whoop.
But that's just me.

When running and gunning 15 rounds vs 5 makes a huge difference. Same goes when practicing drills. you can even do a proper drill with only 5...lol
