Indoor private handgun shooting range?

Assuming you have the money to build it and meet the CFO requirements, municipal zoning might be a huge issue. Make sure you look into that before spending a single dime on anything else.

Big Steel Box here in BC will do this for you.

Perhaps, but they are easily reinforced with some steel and a decent welder. There are also companies out there that make custom shipping containers for whatever the heck you want, generally sold for storage purposes but if you wanna pay for it, they'll make you whatever you want. Even install it on site, so if you drew up plans for something that was 2 containers wide, and two containers long, you could easily have it all welded up into one single "room" with support pillars and beams where necessary.

Canadian municipal bylaws are the last refuge of the politically insignificant, and the first reminder of our lack of our nation's lack of chartered property rights.

Your biggest problem is if there is living space above you the ceiling must be bullet proof. Gun clubs with ranges in their basements have had to make allowances for this in Ontario.

you could always use precast culverts and put them end to end as well instead of c cans, heck you probably wouldn't have to bury them

Another aspect that has nothing to do with the legalities of it, but is a very real factor is the consideration of what will happen when the property will inevitably be sold. (Even if you live there for the rest of your life, someday, it will be put up for sale.) In addition to the cost of building and maintaining the range, It will take a very specific buyer to purchase a house with an indoor/basement range with no knowledge of what you kept up as a lead containment regime. (Did you do it "by the book" or did you say screw it, once approval to build it was obtained and it passed inspection?)

I'm not saying that this should influence your decision, but simply that you should be aware that someday it might become a long term factor that could potentially have an impact in the 10s of thousands of dollars.

The fallout continues - now that air guns are "firearms" people who use them in their basements may now be illegal?

Met with these guys at Shot Show last year. www.shootingrangeindustries.com
They will deliver to Canada, can be brought indoors as well allegedly (Im assuming a warehouse with large industrial doors?) and are modular, so can make as many lanes as you require.
Wife keeps bugging me to open a range because most everywhere within a 2 hour drive is full...

Are you saying that there is no law against shooting in your basement?

Are you saying there is? Post it

Try and get the government and CFO to sign off on a gun range in your basement. They will never sign off.

Post the law that says they have to

The only legal barrier to this is local bylaws. As long as its private/ for you only.

Local legalities might be your first obstacle. Check with your city by-law if they would allow one within a residential area. If ever they will allow you, I am not sure if your basement is a good location. As soon as you get a go from your city, get them to sign a letter allowing you to build a personal range. Then get the CFO to approve a proposal for your range. You have to provide a plan with adequate safety, ventilation and security. You might need a professional to do this plan. Soundproofing, walls, ceiling bulletproofing and an adequate backstop depending on what maximum caliber you will be firing. 3 years ago, I attended a seminar conducted with CFO-Ontario in Barrie. One of the questions raised was the construction of a private range for Restricted Firearms. CFO's answer was positive. But there are numerous conditions that has to be met. Few of those I mentioned on this post. I am pretty sure, a complete package can be requested from CFO regarding this project. Also, Insurance coverage might be another concern. But since this is your personal range, it might not be as steep compared to a club or commercial range.

So many nay sayers in this post...
A post with a link to company that builds modular solutions has been posted and I still read people saying 'no , no , no'.

You can tell right away who is a real shooter and who is the tacticool ninja mall who has no clue what he is talking about...
