I'm sorry for "another one of those posts", but I am looking at buying a CIL 190 .22LR from someone. I have google'd like crazy, but can't seem to come up with much info on the gun.

I have shot it. It's a very nice gun. I want to know if it would be a good first gun for me. It's in good condition, a couple of small dings on the forestock, but nothing that concerns me. As well, I am not too worried about the resale value of the gun as there is a 99.9% chance I will never sell it, I will pass it down to my sons as they get of age.

More than anything, I would like to know what people think of the quality of the action and the barrel. The gun most definately shoots better than me, but I would think that buying an accurate used gun as my first would be better than buying a not so accurate new gun.

This gun will be used 100% at a range and I don't plan to hunt with it.

If anyone has any more info on the gun, or opinions, please feel free to post or let me know.

Thanks so much,
Corey

Buy it, so long as the bolt sear slot is still well defined and not chewed up.
That is a problem area if a previous user has tried to pull back the bolt too hard.
Still have it's target sights?

It's got rings and a scope on it, not the greatest scope, but it holds zero. It has the steel sights as well. The guy who is selling it is asking $500 CDN for it. I was thinking about a CZ452 American for $469 CDN + tax, but the thought of an Anschutz action for the same price, albeit used, is *very* appealing to me. As well, the gun is comfortable for me to shoot as well.

Thanks,
Corey

The 190 is a single shot and the CZ452 is a repeater.
The 64 actioned 190 was designed for the sporting rifle class. The junior rifle club here uses them.I could be wrong but I think the 190 is somewhat similar to the Anschutz 1403 and 1903
Here's a few links I found that I hope are somewhat helpful...

I'd say it is too much, specially if it's a cheap scope.
I wouldn't pay much over $400 in nice condition with the correct target sights.
$500 or a bit more will buy a Walther or Anschutz.

I had one with target sights and a beatiful target stock, all in excellent condition and sold it for $400. It is a very nice gun but I decided to sell it in order to buy its richer cousin, the Anschutz 54 for $600.

In your case, I would say that $500 might be somewhat high - it would depend on the scope, the iron sights and if you have a full target stock or not.

I'm with Slash5 on that one. I bought one a couple of years ago with the correct target sights for $300. At the price the guy is asking he'll have it awhile. Keep looking you'll find yourself a better deal. BTW, Smithville ?

I think $400 to $500 is the right money.I also was recently looking.Could have got a nice shape 190 for $500,but settled on a just as nice Anschutz 54MS but had to pay $750.

190

Back in the late 70's I got my SFC Master classification shooting a 190 with the micrometer sights. Paid $260 for it in 1978. I have watched the prices over the years and while others seem to have seen them cheaper I can't remember one going for less than $400 in recent memory. If it has the original sights, is mechanically and cosmetically sound and also has a scope you're not getting clipped at $500. Might not be the greatest deal in the world but you're doing OK.

Are the original sights peep sights? It is in pretty good condition. The gun is coming from a very experienced person with regards to guns. I have shot about 200 rounds through it flawlessly (my marksmanship, on the other hand is very flawed). Today I was shooting a BRNO 4, which was nice as well, but unfortunately not for sale.

I think I am going to take the gun... mostly for the convenience, no driving, shipping, tax's, etc. Maybe with some practice I won't get the teddy bear award each Sunday morning (inside joke).

Thanks,
Corey

You wont regret buying it, if you feel the price is OK go for it. Not having the original sights could devalue it considerably.
You already can attest its accurracy, most of the Army cadet corps in the Country have been issued them for years, with very little problems.
Cheers nessy.

Well it's definately the 190-S... The first link Slash5 provided has a picture of the gun... I am gonna take it as is... I think I want to keep the scope on it until I get a little better and then change over to the target sights.

Thanks for all the input guys.

I've shot a CIL (Anschutz) 190 at our local gun club for about 35 years. It shoots like a dream and if I do my part it can keep up with the 1403's and sporter Walthers. I also have cz 452 sporter of the same vintage. I think both at a second hand store should be in the neighbourhood of 300 to 350.

I've had a CIL 190. If you're thinking of match rifle shooting, you should continue shopping for a better gun. The CIL 190 does'nt have a "match" chamber and the trigger mechanism is definitely the lowest quality from Anschutz. If you can find an Anschutz 190 (a similiar but slightly better gun), or any of the Anschutz 64 or higher end 54 guns, they would be a better buy. They may be a few more bucks but worthwhile in the long run.

Good luck,
SP

I can tell you for a fact that the only difference between the two rifles is the stamping on the barrel.
The 190 is a C.I.L. designation, and was O.E.M. for them by Anschutz.
The action is the same 64 action, same trigger group, same barrel specs.
