intersting conversation with the Remington guys today

I see SIR is advertising the Remington R15 now. Its a wonder that the DOS is letting that one out of the country...

What about the SPS Tactical or the XCR tacticals?
Hard to say what will happen no real direction can be forcasted when dealing with the US State dept keeps changing direction like the wind blows

So I must assume that because rifles deemed Tactical, Police, Sniper or otherwise would be used to attack the USA, therefore they cannot ship them to foreign countries, only Military and Law Enforcement agencies.

40X and Varmint are OK though because nobody would ever consider them as a threat. Got it!

Can someone please explain to me when civilians bought exported rifles from the USA and went over there to shoot them with it? Can't wait to see that. ;)

The logic is astonishing.
I'm still thinking this is some cooked up agreement between USA/Canada to further restrict civilian use of these so called "evil looking" bolt action guns that just don't look like Canadians should own and be empowered to have. They just don't look like Moose and Dear guns and that probably frightens the pc crowd.

After everything that has been said here, we must unfortunately put our population into perspective. There aren't enough of us 'bad gun' owners here in Canada for the manufacturers to even take lightly let alone take seriously so we end up getting screwed because of it.
Future looks grim boys.

I agree. I remember what a year or two ago the president of Remington said that Canada accounts for I think it was 2% of their business. With the cost of things and the way permitting is going, it will not be worth their while to deal with us. What a great legacy Bush is leaving, Homeland Security.

Only 2% but what about other countries, the ban is for Canada only?

Well, if we really want to, we can just build our own Tactical, Sniper and Combat series of firearms up here. Once the American manufacturers are locked out by thier own State Department, domestic manufacturers will have a chance. Besides, once the American Manufacturers see that as a threat to even a piffling market share the lobby will get downright nasty on Capitol Hill. Think opportunity and not crisis here guys.

So here's another question. If I move back to Canada from the States, can I bring (export?) my FN SPR (Special Police Rifle) and 700 LTR (Light Tactical rifle)? Ugh. I always assumed that bolt-action rifles would be safe down here, but I guess they are all now "sniper rifles".

Does anyone know if there is a US Dept of Justice list of firearms that can not be exported? I tried a Google search and didn't find any info.

Also, would going to Canada with one of my rifles for a match be considered exporting it?

I woudl think not, but then again, we can't bring our SA Classic Greens for matches in the US cause the ATF considers it temporary import.

You should call or write the ATF and/or State Department.

they seem to make changes at a whim, when ever the firearm crosses the boarder, for a minute or ever, it needs a permit.

Buy a Tikka or Sako...

...or as someone mentioned, someone should start producing Canadian made, bolt action, magazine fed, HB rifles.
