intersting conversation with the Remington guys today

Everyone here are all excited and jump to conclusion because of one person statement.
you guys sounded so concern... call up Remington directly and get the fact straight from the source.
Band this Band that. Shortest of this and that, that is why we are paying a buck thirty for gasoline.
When a company want to drive sale up, What do they do? I think we all know the answer to that.
JMO.

So how does one call Remington Canada? Google is no use.

Fine, lets consider the source.........on another note, how hard is it to find federal 210m and 215m primers? You don't have to believe anything. Like its been said, call some distributers. There is going to be a few 700P's and tacticals floating around, but its going to end somewhere if something doesn't get changed. Its going around on the US boards as well...ie snipershide. So believe it or not, whatever. The info is out there, do with it what you will.

The ammunition an reloading divisions of Remington are totally different than the fireams division. You can't even draw an analogy here regarding Federal products because it simply doesn't exist. If you're seeing a shortage of Federal primers here it's because the Canadian distributors aren't ordering enough of them.

From your perspective maybe. I guess the US government ordering billions of rounds of ammunition has nothing to do with it. No it's not a perfect analogy but what the US wants to limit, it limits. What the US wants to restrict, it restricts and they don't need a reason for it.

People have been #####ing about component availability for years now. It didn't take a war in Iraq or Afghanistan to start those BS rumors again. The same excuse was originally played out during the Gulf War in the early 1990's. You're about 20 years behind the learning curve.

New Gun !!!!

Thats is what my local dealer tells me all the time and some guy buys it. Next week I return to the store and there is it, another one on the displace rack.

READ the thread i put up before commenting :runaway:

First of all the Gun Store never said it was the last one that they were getting.
Second i have been in the market for one for a while.
Third he offered me a good price on it cause it's been sitting on his rack for 6 months.
This thread had no bearing on as to why i bought the rifle :sniper:

I did not mean to offend you... What I meant was that ,there are a few salesman use this tactic on the potential buyers thinking this would work. (Maybe on some) If I was in the market to buy one, I would buy one doesn't what he or she said.

Following is the reply I have received from the International Commercial Sales Director.

"I have received your inquiry about the model 700P in Canada. While it is true that the US State Department has recently rejected an export license for model 700P rifles, we do not expect this to be a permanent decision. There has been some turnover at the State Department and there is now a new person in charge. Whenever this happens, the new people always want to look at things differently and challenge certain regulations. In this case, they are under the impression that the 700P is a specially designed military weapon that should only be used for military purposes. It is our job to convince them that this is a bolt-action rifle and has multiple uses. This is a typical political issue that we have grown accustomed to dealing with and are currently working with the State Department to resolve.

In the meantime, please contact Hugo Laliberte at the Gravel Agency who can direct you to a dealer who has them in stock. He is copied on this e-mail."

Bureaucrats and inner department paper pushers spend their lives scheming new laws and regulations. The problem is more come in than are taken out.

Remington was awarded a substainal military contract for the M24 SWS and will be declared a essentail military supplier by the US govt

In conversation with Remington Canadas rep while trying to order more rifles today. Apparently the State Dept has decided that 700Police models now need to be controlled, as in considered military hardware, so are not approveing export permits for these rifles. They are claiming that these are "sniper rifles designed for police or military use" I guess the learned folks at DOS have never thought of the potential of a 700VLS or Sendero:confused:

This should prove to be interesting

Remington Canada has proposed that Remington change the "P" to mean Parkerized

It just not seem that the DOS ever runs out of weird thoughts to further make firearms ownership in foreign countries a hassle.

SO If we can believe Savages post, and I do!! Seeing as his intel mirrors mine, and that of a few others, I guess it must be true now:eek:

So no 45-70 or 30-06 either? 7x57, 8x57? How about the 338 Lapua? This is disturbing indeed. Should spur on Canadian firearms manufacture, one would hope.
