IPSC Handgun

I know looking at the costs of everything and The Jericho Baby eagle range kit is looking attractive because I can get out shooting right away. At the same time, I honestly feel I wont be happy unless I get a CZ.

How much are new slides for the CZ?

New slide? What for!
Cz custom sells slides i believe, not something that would be stocked as there is rarily a need to replace slides unless under warrenty

You can't go wrong with a CZ Shadow that's what I use to shoot in IPSC. I have tried a couple of others when starting out and ended up with a CZ. If it feels comfortable in your hand I don't think you will regret it. Bulls Eye London has a Shadow line on sale right now at real good price.

Ah sorry, thought you were in GVRD. For production, the majority of the folks run a Shadow, so you can't really go wrong there. The upside of that is there is going to be big pool of knowledge out there and lots of people around to help you and give you lots of tips for tuning and tweaking (within IPSC guidelines :)) an already excellent gun.

The CZ Shadow 2 was just announced, so have a look on EE as there will soon be a lot of people looking to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

I just finished the IPSC black badge course this past March 19-20 at KTSA. Except for myself and another dude; everyone else had CZ Shadows. They are a nice pistol and I was told very easy to customize. My only compliant with the CZ was the method in which the shooter has to de-#### it.

Personally I would go with the CZ Shadow. Owned three CZs and they always ate whatever I feed them and extremely reliable overall.

Just follow this method:

You guys think ill get a chance to get one on sale or should I just shell out the 1000$?
I'd check with the site sponsors and buy from the one you like that has it in stock. Balance of reputation and price. Or maybe someone in your area has one for sale you can try at a local range?

That's the method that was demonstrated. Easy enough...just felt a little odd depressing the trigger while rolling your thumb out from under the hammer. I'm thinking about one myself as soon as the pennies are saved up. After the course I have a genuine interest in IPSC now....
Do a bunch of dry-fire practice decocking the Shadow like that. Always take your time and make every movement be deliberate and think about what you're doing. Don't go into "autopilot" when decocking or holstering a pistol. You'll be fine. :)

I have a shadow,Jericho and a glock 17 and would have to say go with the shadow. I love my Jericho it shoots like a dream has a great trigger fits my hand but if you need replacement parts they are coming out of Israel, holster selection is almost non existent and Iwi stamped mags can be hard to find and expensive. The glock was to me my worst firearm purchase. Not that it's a piece of junk or unreliable in any way I just can't shoot it worth a dam imho once you shoot a few nice single action triggers the spongy glock trigger is terrible. Also the glock mags I priced out were insanely expensive. The shadow has a more ergonomic grip design than the Jericho there are a few dealers in Canada that Carry cz brand replacement/upgrade parts and there seems to be a pretty good supply of mags available as well as holsters. I've only had my shadow for a few weeks but it's quickly becoming one of my favourite pistols.

Fixed sights vs adjustable sights,

I am in the camp of preferring fixed sights. Figure out your bullet weight and where it impacts at 25yds. Replace either the front (cheapest way) or rear sight (expensive way) to make it hit POA. Then stick with it. For me that meant changing the front sights on my Shadows to the 6mm tall front sight as I shoot 147gr bullets and they were typically setup for 124gr. The recent Shadowmates haven't needed the front sight changed, they were already 6mm. All that said, I also just put HAJO sights on my 3 main Shadowmates. Why? Because I travel a lot and can't take my match ammo to more than the first match I hit on a trip. That means I'm stuck using whatever ammo I can arrange at match, sometimes 124gr, sometimes 130gr or 140gr, sometimes 115gr (IIICCCKKKKK). So I need the adjustable sight for that. Windage is a non issue for me. With my Shadows I think I've had to adjust maybe 2 of them a tad as the sight was too far to one side and the hits reflected that. Once centered the gun shoots bang on.

I have a decent shooting Shadow, paid about $750 for it new a few years ago. I bought 2000 rounds of factory ammo. $600. I reload now so not sure how much the cost per 1000 is now, don't care to know. The thing is this gun will last a long time before its worn out. If I remember correctly some have 50,000-80,000 rounds through them. I doubt I will have the time or money to get anywhere near those numbers, but a $1500-2000 price of a Shadow is hardly a factor in the big picture for me. If the gun was to be hardly used, then I would settle for a less expensive model.

Custom Reloading Services in Maple Ridge, BC makes great reloaded ammo that a lot of local IPSC folks use. Generally about 2/3rds the cost of factory ammo, but shipping costs up to you in PG may not make it worthwhile. Wait until you start reloading lol. There's nothing like being able to tune your own load, but it's a whole nother hobby :)

Well I see my choice is easy now. Im a high volume shooter for 9mm is ideal price ammo.
