Is 7.62x39 drying up?

And two years from now everyone will be saying they wished they bought more in 2018 when it was so much cheaper...
Buy it cheap, stack it deeeeeeep!!!

But how deeeeep is deep enough thou? From what I see, if you don't see yourself quitting this hobby in the foreseeable future, they are bound to run out someday.

Lol hey man I got "zero" feedback and no-one will even reply to my PMs when I say EMT ready!

You got to keep trying man, everyone starts somewhere. I think some people just won't reply to let you know the item is sold.

Make some local face to face sales to start getting your rating up.

How deep is deep enough. How long is a piece of string? Seriously though the answer will vary for everyone. If you currently take a year to go through a crate of ammo the question is how many years of shooting do you want to invest in?

I knew the good times wouldn't last lol
Once the surplus dries up and the price went up, there was little appeal to me of old Commbloc arms. Ammo was getting harder to find and the price of it more than doubled in the time since I started with them.
It was getting to the point where I could shoot North American guns with North American non corrosive, decent quality, brass cased, bulk ammo for about the same price so it was a no brainer for me.

See the price of factory 7.62x54R in North America other than surplus in Canada these days? It's about $30 a box of 20. Even more for soft points if you're going to hunt.
Might as well dust off the old LeeEnfield and hit the Can Tire for some .303 Brit at that price.
Likewise with the 7.62x39mm Other than full up crates of surplus, you will be buying Barnaul lacquer coated steel case 20 round boxes for over $0.65 a round after tax.
Unless someone is going to start importing Wolf Steel case from the US at reasonable prices, things are going to get worse in the near future.

I buy Barnaul by the box of 500, and it's still a great deal compared to most other ammo and it's non-corrosive, reliable and accurate. I try to buy a case per month... stack'in it deep (not, as I keep throwing it at the club's berm).
I can see the feds choking the cheap ammo supply before they go after the combloc toys. From an investment perspective, there is no better purchase than ammo and guns... :)

I prefer the non corrosive stuff. My LGS has it for about $5 more per 20 rounds then the corrosive. Its MFS and new production so we can probably count on that staying around for a while. Worst case i hand load and have a coffee can of boxer primed 7.62x39 that i picked up off the ground over the span of a couple years at the DNR range.

My first deal (and only one for now) is local as well, so that's probably some good advice.

Like I said I'm new to this, so that how long it would take for me to go through a creat of ammo is still to be determined. However, my point was no matter how deep you stack, you can't have enough to last a lifetime without it being a serious financial burden.

You haven't gone through your first crate yet? I think it's a bit premature to worry about amassing a lifetime supply at this point, lol. Over the course of a lifetime of shooting, there will be huge changes in what's available (in guns, ammo and places to shoot), as well as what your interests and tastes will be. A purchase is not a lifetime commitment.

One thing's for sure: if you've got it stacked up in your basement...you're gonna shoot more! :)

Especially now that you are being influenced by the example of these CGN people, who think nothing of blasting thru a crate of surplus per month.:sok2

I haven't yet. I don't even have my first firearm yet. Ordered a T81 and still waiting for it. But you do have a point. My original comment was just trying to point out that compared to the actual firearm, ammo is a consumable and you can always have more.

Well this place is called Canadian Gun NUTZ, not fans or enthusiasts or something else for a reason.

About 10 years ago i was talking to the largest importer of guns/ammo in the US, two brothers from quebec now living in the southern states. I was told i could a sea can of x39 that worked out to about 40 dollars a case. I jumped through my hoops with my local cfo and i had to stop when he told me he wanted me to build a earth berm bunker on my property to store the sea can. I posted this here to CGN and then i got a few very nasty messages from venders on this site. Now im not sure what a 20 foot sea can goes for now but i do know there is no world shortage have prices really gone up almost 300% or has the profit margin?

You are dead right about that Sir.
SVT40 now doing a 180% increase in value in about 6 years time.
Most ammo is about the same when compared to 10 years ago. And all this with zero drop in demand for the commodity!

None of my investments have ever done that in the last 15 years lol

I remember corresponding with you at that time. I had my shovel ready and would have been there. A sea can of ammo, that is what leprechauns would leave at the end of my rainbow! :)

Yes the idea was to dump the sea can in my driveway, lock it and sell it by the case. The CFO wanted an earth berm, a fire fighting system....and the list went on. The goal was to sell the ammo for cost + shipping per case + 10% profit. Oh the hate mail came rolling in from fairly large companies. I could of got 54r for a few more dollars per case.
