Is 7.62x39 drying up?

I see this is a weekly thread. It's now mid May, and I'm wondering if anyone has a line on who has bulk ammo right now at a decent price. I haven't found anything less than $370 for 1400, and hardly anyone has any in Alberta right now. Anyone have ideas now and who will ship free or at a decent cost? Thanks!!

There is sooooo much available Russian, European, and Chinese surplus ammunition available that you can give every gun owner in Canada 10 Million rounds and no one would miss it from stock.

As I have said before, if dealers don't feel like they can profit from it, they will not import it, or sell it. Lots of this stuff is $0.15 - 0.18 a round in US dollars. look at the exchange rate and do the math.

Problem is we are pissy with russia right now. So we can't buy any of there hoards of surplus...

Look at the sks's; they are rebranded and stamped for a company outside russia to get around the inport ban. Little hard to do that too ammo.

Things were luke warm with Harper and I picked up a couple of beaut sks. BBQ paint included although they are all matching. I've been hitting the secondary ammo market and picked up 1500 Chinese non-corrosive recently for 320.

Lukewarm you say??????????? Mr Harper hated Putin and publicly scorned him on several occasions during international financial meetings such as Davos Switzerland.

I believe most of the surplus 7.62x39 was coming out of Ukraine. Likely most of it was made by a Russian or Satellite nation. From my info sources that stuff is being retained for their own use during the recent unpleasantness.

Soviet surplus 7.62x39, x25 and 54 I saw came from Ukraine, some directly, some via Germany. And Ukraine needs it now. Russia don't sell surplus, no matter if we have Harper or clown, they sell commercial junk ammo only. Surplus they give away for free to spread the peace across the world.

I did not know that. Thanks for the heads up.

There *was*.

A few years ago, before Russia stepped into the Syrian circus, and before Ukraine ran out of ammo and had to get bailed out by Lithuania, 7.62x39 rounds had going rate of about 1 USD per....556 was 3 bucks (in Syria). Iran was supplying Syria with equipment that they produced, supplemented with stuff they were getting from China in exchange for oil.
*If* our dollar gets stronger, and these conflicts get resolved (and arent replaced with some new nonsense) then its possible that whatever's left *might* start making its way back.

Cabelas seems to have found some somewhere, on sale 369.99 for a 1500 round crate the next few days. Looked like Chinese surplus to me.

After I read this I went and bought 2 crates.
Not as cheap as the old days but $369 for 1500 rounds is pretty good. And it doesn't seem to be getting any cheaper.

Our local CTC has a pallet in but asking $450. For a crate of 1500 prc. They aren't too interested in selling full crates, more into breaking it down into paks or half crates at $230. He is ordering another pallet, 48/pallet as he realizes this stuff comes in waves! Still lots around from what I can see.
