Is 7.62x39 drying up?

Our local CTC has a pallet in but asking $450. For a crate of 1500 prc. They aren't too interested in selling full crates, more into breaking it down into paks or half crates at $230. He is ordering another pallet, 48/pallet as he realizes this stuff comes in waves! Still lots around from what I can see.

Bayers lake?

Roughly 20% of the estimated 550 firearms in worldwide circulation use this caliber, it'll be around for a while yet.

Up until about a year ago, I could find 20rd boxes of Barnaul/non-corrosive for about $12-$13. Anybody know if that's still possible? I saw some 20 round boxes of S&B non-corrosive this past Friday, but left it on the shelf for $18+tax. Bummer.

I've never owned/shot surplus/corrosive through any gun I own...but considering my SKS is a run-of-the-mill Russian..maybe I'm treating it too well. lol

That works out to just over 30cents per round after taxes. That's still cheaper than reloading. The Canadian dollar isn't going to appreciate in value anytime soon, no matter what the Liberals would like you to believe. Sales tax, especially in the Maritimes will steadily increase. Buy it while you can. In a couple of years that will look cheap.

I wish someone would import a bunch of 7.62x54r, now that is a surplus round that has dried up.

When you see a sale buy a couple crates if you can afford it, none of the milsurp ammo I have bought has gone down in value, to say nothing about even still being available on the market.

Lever Arms has lots of 7.62x54R non corrosive by the crate at what I feel are decent prices. Google them and find out.

Lever Arms has sold non-corrosive in the past that ...........well wasn't.

Last time I looked, they updated the online ad to say it’s a mixed bag ..... no longer advertised as non-corrosive .... apparently, some has tested non-corrosive with the nail test and some appears to be corrosivie ..... looks like they are trying to avoid the issues they had in the past. This is the same problem that one of our site sponsors appeared to have had with 7.62x54r in the past; the Chinese appear to have no problem using up and mixing up the odd corrosive primers in their non-corrosive ammo, so even ammo in the same spam can vary.

There have been some good deals on x39 on the EE lately, corrosive and otherwise. I wont be buying corrosive from cabelas until it goes on sale again.

I can speak from personal experience on this stuff that it's fine. Did the nail test before using in my rifles. No issues after close to 300 rounds through my shooters.

City Boy, I guess I got lucky??? The Chinese 223 I bought was fine as was the 7.62x39 that was advertised as NC. Luck of the draw I guess.

I’ve never heard of any problems with the 223 which was very popular nor the canada ammo non-corrosive Chinese 7.62x39, but I remember can am had some trouble with the 7.62x54r where it was alleged that it wasn’t always 100% non-corrosive and then can am changed the description to corrosive just to be on the safe side.

I looked recently at the lever arms website and was surprised to see they now suggest to treat their 7.62x39 as corrosive just to be safe as well. So, I’m just going by what they themselves have posted. I know many members in here had good luck with their recent batch, so I guess it’s a mixed bag?

Nail test?

Y2K ..... Someone can answer the process of this better than me, but basically the powder from the primers are tested on nails to see, if rust forms as an indicator of corrosive powders being present. I’m sure there must be a thread on here with instructions on how to safely do that.
