Is it a joke or are they serious?

It’s happening with ATVs, snowmobiles and boats too. Don’t get too butt hurt about it. Personally I wouldn’t sell my powder for $200/lb so if they are willing to part with it I fell bad for them.

I've heard a rumour that the U.S government is paying ammunition, component, and powder manufactures as well as importers to keep supplies and maufacturing minimal and thus driving up the costs and availability. Backdoor gun control.

This brings a person back down to earth. Iv been rolling over laughing at that add since yesterday…. But in all honesty, I wouldn’t sell mine for $200 lb either. Excellent point.

There are a lot of boats sitting high and dry on their trailers, motorhomes parked, etc with fuel prices doubling.

I've seen this before, all of the above being sold for what's left owing on them or less when the bank/lender forcloses/repossess them.

Right now, people are loving what they purchased during the lockdowns, but this cycle is quickly coming to an end.

There are people out there who would prostitute their own grandmother for 10 bucks.

If you don't want to pay the asking price for powder - or someone's grandmother - just move on and live your life.

what is actually happening is big money lefties/democrat supporters are buying up the companies that produce the raw goods for making powder, primers, bullets and brass. These same rich lefties are also getting involved and pressuring shipping companies that transport firearms, ammunition, powders, primers and the raw materials to make them.
This is not rumour, it is fact.
We are not immune here in Canada, evidenced by companies such as Canpar making decisions to refuse the handling of firearms and ammunition/reloading supplies. I am sure that is but one example of how the lefties are messing with anything and everything to do with firearms and related items.

It may be cheaper to buy loaded rounds and then sell the powder to make some money

I could buy powder for $200/lb and primers for $25/100 and still reload my v-max 223 load for $23/20 and they are selling the identical 53 Gr superformance load for $46/box. Still half price for that particular load so…..

If you think powder has gone up, a 3.5 ton mini-ex that my brother bought last summer for $60k is now selling for over $100k. Agricultural equipment has also skyrocketed. Parts are gone nuts if you can find them.

$70 seems to be the new good deal for rifle powder. $85 at cabelas. Pistol can be found for $45 per pound.
Primers @ $11 for rifle and $10 for pistol if you dig around. Not great prices, but not prohibitive by any means. It takes a little effort to source it all, and for sure not from the same place.
The EE is laughable. Shipping powder privately is a joke too, so there’s that…
If you find it cheap, buy as much as you can afford. You won’t feel as bad if it goes down in price as you will if you only buy a little and it goes up!

Break down the whole and sell the cases, bullets, powder and yes, even the primers for more than the loaded cartridge. Right off the bat I can think of one big problem with that idea. (There are more).

Buy cheap, buy lots when you can.
Don’t be in a panic to buy a certain powder. Most times the most common powders are sold out. But most stores will be willing to add to their next order whatever you want.
Or try something new if you are in a pinch.
Some times you have to reference MULTIPLE reloading manuals, to find recipes for alternative powders. If you can’t find “THE” powder you “NEED”. Find a suitable alternative. Work up a new load. I have found some of my best load recipes by trying what I could find, instead of the powder I wanted.
You can never have too much reference material! Or gunpowder for that matter.

I just paid over triple the normal price for a brick of primers and the seller basically told me if you aren't happy with my price tough. I was stuck so I paid, I had been looking for well over 2 weeks at that point for some primers.

If you wait by the river long enough… my LGS just brought in tons of CCI and Federal primers, I missed on Fed SPP, sadly.

What is a “Normal” price?
An acquaintance of mine needed some benchrest primers and paid $18.50 for a sleeve of CCI BR-2’s from a store.
He needed them and was willing to pay it so he did.
