Is it worth buying a handgun right now?

Im gonna go a different direction.

How tight is your budget?

-If you have lots of disposable income then go but a nice pistol (or 2 or 3)
-If you budget is tight, go buy an NR semi

If he can afford an NR semi he can afford a handgun. My first handgun was like $225 for an FMK 9C1, which is a plastic fantastic glock clone. Tara and Girsan make options that are close to or even below $300... Norinco are cheap too, can get a 226 clone if he wants something steel and blued... or an older Ruger or colt 22lr for $300-400... Ruger wrangler if he wants to try a single action 22 revolver.... you get the point.

Besides, it seems the Libs are intent on passing the buck to provinces/municipalities, and there's a lot of red tape to go through before provinces/municipalities can ban them, so it's highly unlikely they'll be banned in the short term. As long as the OP doesn't live in Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal I wouldn't be too worried about a ban for the next year or two at least.

My point is that if you have enough money to only buy only thing and you don't already own an NR semi that's what id buy.

because its NR... and things i can't say without getting pinked.

If you can afford both then obviously also get a pistol

I was working under the assumption that the OP already had NR guns of some sort.

You guys and this thread convinced me to jump back in the restricted game.

Back when my AR became prohibited and I got fed up with my local range (always crowded or events going on) I decided to sell everything registered and just shoot non-restricted on crown land. Had a S&W MP9 at that time, previously had a S&W 617, and before that a Star Model B.

Since then I joined another range, and today I bought another handgun. Bought a canik, got it cheap. Might also buy a 44 mag revolver if I find a deal since I reload for 44 anyway -- just missed a steal of a deal the other day, a 629 5" for $725.

I do have some NR rifles, and I hunt. My kids love shooting with me, and we started firearms safety at a young age so I'm very proud of their maturity around firearms now.

I asked my 12 y.o how he would feel if I bought a pistol, and his reply made me realize how much I'm overthinking it. He said, "How would it be any different than any of your other guns?"

I'm going to start shopping. Thanks everyone!

Also still accepting conspiracy stories...

Hey everyone, I would love to get some opinions on this. I've had my restricted PAL for a little while, but I never ended up purchasing any restricted firearms. I recently developed the itch, however, after going to the range with a friend of mine and trying out his P226. With the general political climate right now, what are people's opinions on having something registered to your name? I'm not really looking for conspiracy theories or doomsday predictions, but if I'm being honest I always enjoy a good read, so have at it.

Thanks!

Seems your concerns are related to the Liberal gun grab. Well it looks like the PM is finally losing control of his self-destructing party, hopefully soon he gets the boot, just like Conservatives did to O'toole These two developments could work in our favor.

At any rate, I am not panicking. Why worry about things beyond your control? Nobody can predict, much less control the future. We can control what we buy and sell. I'm still buying and selling restricteds.

3 years ago, concerns about the AR ban convinced me to pull the trigger. I bought two ARs.

I suggest you buy what you want.

Do it and don't let the government influence your decision. The more handguns out there the harder they are to ban.

You underestimate our Prime Minister. After this little fiasco with the Freedom Convoy is over, he'll be chompin' at the bit to show everyone who's boss!

The more guns out there to confiscate, the more people he can pizz off. Something he thoroughly enjoys, eh!

At yet, y'all will keep re-electing him.

Brother....anytime is the right time to buy a handgun. I have very recently purchased “several” restricted rifles and shotguns and have my eye on a certain Glock. Go buy it....

Easy to say buy because at the end of the day, it's your money and time. Maybe check into your life and work schedule and your interest in shooting before making the decision to buy or not

Don’t listen to this guy! Impulse buying is THE only way to buy guns. And don’t give me the old “ But the Mrs.....” BS as an excuse not to either.

Once we see what the results are RE truckers 'insurrection', we may have an avenue of recourse. Can we get some 'big buck' supporters to finance a Fed and Prov protest "Rally" ?
Where does Elon Musk stand on firearms freedoms ?

It is worth buying three if you live in a liberal riding ...... One to pizz off your local MP, one to pizz off trudeau and one for just liberals in general!

Idk bit there's gotta be some old money somewhere that would totally fund a bunch of young guys with juice to march down there and give 'em a piece of his mind.
