Is NEA okay now ?

Which finish don't you like; the black, OD, burnt bronze, or the fde? And sharp edges???

I was referring to their "black" standard finish or whatever that is usually more grey. And I am also not a fan of the squared forward assist and trigger guard and how the uppers are sort of squared off on the sides. but that is totally just personal preference. I do like the 7.5" PDW configs though haha

I have a 10.5 with the ccs stock. I love the looks and feel but have had a few problems. I bought it through their IOP program. They sent it with a flash hider instead of the attachment I ordered.

The second range day my hammer retaining spring (little spring in hammer to stop the hammer pin from walking out) broke and my pin kept walking out. I slapped some gun tape on the receiver and finished the 3 gun day. I made the claim with them and had the new hammer at the post office the next day. They also included their mgb with shield to make up for their original screw up the the flash hider.

Latest problem was the retaining pin that holds the buffer to the bcg (remember ccs stock) sheared off and caused the action to lock up. Again I contacted them and they asked me to ship the bcg back and they'd weld the buffer housing on so it wouldn't happen again.

So yes I've had some issues but nothing major like most the common complaints are. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. Yes it has gone down, but I live like 5 min from my range so it's not a wasted day. Just allows me to shoot more pistol instead, which I need the practice. Lol

They haven't had that grey finish in almost 2 years I think.
I love their trigger guard...hope they never change it.

Ive owned a number of NEA AR's... some of the older Gen and 2 of the newer gen. The older ones weren't nearly as refined... they felt cheap IMO. But I didnt ever have a problem with them. At all... I put about 1000 rounds through each.

The new ones feel, IMO, to be of much better build quality. I, personally, really like the squared off edges and sharp lines. I think it looks really nice. The 2 newer ones I have owned had less rounds through them, but both worked fine with no issues at all.

Ive build a handful of AR's using NEA uppers, lowers or both. In my experience, their uppers and lowers worth together well, but they wont always fit correctly with other brand uppers and lowers.

With all of this said, I currently own a Norc 10.5 inch AR... of all the ARs I've owned (including DD's, spikes and other high end guns), this ones works just as well, and cost up to 1/4 the price. I got mine lightly used for $550... put a few hundred into upgraded furniture and a few bits and pieces... for less than the price of an NEA I have a gun thats customized to me, works PERFECT, never lets me down and, because its a norc, proves I'm not trying to impress anyone with fancy gear... my sub par shooting does all the talking for me. Lol.

Id buy an NEA on a great sale deal if I was in the market for one. But if you just want a really good working AR thats cheap and wont fail, try a norc. Im sure many will laugh at me... but mines great.

I have had my NEA for a few years now. Only trouble I have experienced is the rifle would double on me if I was too slow with my trigger reset. I contacted NEA and had a new FCG in no time. When I replaced the parts I actually had FA parts that were cut into a semi configuration. No troubles now.

Ok, so NEA is out of the picture then.

The Windhams are a bit difficult to find but I did see some DPMS here and there for about 850$, are they any good ?
I will probably had MLOK rails and other stuff myself anyway.

Have you considered the ruger AR 556? (sr556 is piston model). I have one and it's been great, have 1k rnds of tula through it. Anyway I see them @ IRG in Canada @ $599 usd.

I just pissed myself....
AIDS is now kind of ok, it's more of a chronic disease. I still don't want it though.

But in all seriousness. I think that most of the comments are unwarranted. I have 4 NEA 15's and have had zero problems with any of them. As with any DI rifle lack of OP maintenance is the # culprit....I'm sure someone will chime in with manufacturing defects etc...etc... you can find them from every manufacturer.
For the Flaccid phallus that wasn't sure why we should support a Canadian company....Where do you live?

Maybe you got lucky.... or maybe your 4 ARs don't get enough rounds each to display their flaws....

I do know that the gunsmiths I know all say to stay away from NEA.... they all said that NEA rifles are constantly coming into the shop to get sorted out, or that parts do not fir properly.

Without doing an exhaustive study I can't be 100% certain but I am almost positive that if you look at members here that have posted problems with their NEA rifles (mostly parts breakage, which has nothing to do with maintenance of a DI rifle) you'll find more problem NEAs than all other AR manufacturers combined. It's to the point where serious problems like failures that cause doubling or locking the action up solid are considered minor concerns. If NEA was the only manufacturer of available ARs, or if their products were priced significantly lower than competing products, then maybe they'd be worth a shot. But why stack the odds against you when there are so many demonstrably better choices? The fact that they're Canadian, or that they seem to have good warranty service, matters zero to me with the significant number of complaints about their products that have been posted here.

Well said sir...

Try asking them a question. They don't respond even if you state you are a customer.

This is my experience as well. I tried one of their latest gen CCS and it wasn't built to spec. I initially contacted the retailer who kindly directed me to an NEA rep. Communications was horrible. My emails were ignored so the retailer actually had to email NEA to encourage them to answer me. I finally found out that NONE of their CCS were built to spec.

Getting the stock back to the retailer was also troublesome since NEA again stopped responding to me and the retailer. Finally the retailer just decided to give me my money back and they would chase NEA.

Coles Notes on NEA:

Good ideas
Poor execution
Poor customer service
