Is the .308 dead???

The 308 is in my book the best balanced round, the power is great, the accuracy is well known and the round is short so the action go accordingly, many goods calibers out there but the 308 is one of a kind... JP.

IMHO, next to the 30-06, it's the most generic cartridge around.

For Hunting in Ontario or any place with lots of brush the 308 is a great cartridge. Considering target shooters use 308 out to a 1000 yards I dont think most hunters exceed the ability of the cartridge

I am aware there are better & flatter shooting cartridges based on the necked down .308 Winchester or otherwise. I just have way too much invested in my various 308s to consider changing right now. IE-I have about 1500 Scenars hoarded away. That's not even counting the hunting bullets and various 'sample packs' of other match bullets. Consider too the brainwashing from cadets, militia & reg' force career.
I can't & don't care that there are other choices available. Besides that, I really like using the Wichita 1375 at the range.
Yes, I am a dinosaur, I freely admit it!

Edit: I own other calibres also, including 30-06, 356, 458x2inch. They fulfil other hunting tasks.

Someone's going to be wearing em.....

I hear the short mags are starting to disapear, but 7mm and 300 mag are likely to be here awhile

Hardly. The short mags arent selling as frantically as they were in the beginning but they are still selling strong. The 270wsm and 300wsm will be around for many years to come as many members here would attest. Perhaps your ears heard that the 7mmwsm and the wssm are becoming scarce, that I would concur.

There aren't any 308 guns there because they sold them first. I just bought another 1000 pieces of 308 brass. Good for a few years again. I cast 5 different weight 308 cal bullets.
