Is the benelli m4 still "the" shotgun to get?

I love mine. I agree in the beginning when she was brand new it was a bit stiff to run light target loads. Ran a case of 3” mags through her now it will cycle anything. Mag dumping bulk no7 bird shot is a breeze.

I'm running a "lesser" red dot (cant remember the brand) but I did a competition recently and had no problem knocking down small steel silhouettes at 50 yards with slugs

I plan to upgrade to an RMR even though the current red dot that came with the gun works fine

Benelli is one of my favourite guns - it does everything well. I imagine a makeover at Tactical Ordnance will only make me even happier.

As a side note I have an Uzkon AS46 pump. Everyone warned me that slugs had quite the kick but I used some in my Benelli and didn't see the big deal. I then finished off the slugs with the pump - day and night difference for felt recoil.

I don't have any optics on my M4 but definitely looking at adding something as the factory sights aren't the best with my eyes

As for price point, I have to admit the RMR is a little over my budget, it would be a stretch to commit to one

What do you guts think abkut an aimpoint pro?

Could you confirm what topic you are using "sniffer" , if you.are hitting little steel silhouettes at 50 yards it must be pretty good

I *think* its a Redfield, I`d guess 3 MOA dot which I feel is perfect for the application

I've also found it works well for clays etc

The poor guy had bad heart problems and i had to rush him to the hospital where he wound up getting transfered to a hospital with a cardiac specialty ward. His family had to come take his rv away. Between the shock of the mighty m4 and a brisk ride in my rzr to a mountaintop lookout his poor heart couldnt take it. Not for the faint of heart you might say.

One sheared the side rail off and sent it flying forward, and the other one had the fore end detach from the rest of the gun.

By no means am I saying that they're not great guns; my experience is purely anecdotal. I'm well aware of the pedigree of this gun and the number of users who have had nothing but success with them. I was just stating that my overall perception of them has changed a bit in the last week or so, and that I wasn't "wowed" when I had one for a short time.
 
Just to stir the pot a little - Benelli M4, $2500 - Beretta 1301 Tactical $1400. Is the Benelli worth $1100 more, or would a shooter be better off buying the Beretta and 3000 rounds of target loads, or a 1000 round mix of 00 Buck or Slugs?

That is exactly the question I am asking myself right now! I still have yet to hear a genuinely convincing, fact-based, argument showing that the M4 is worth a full $1100 more than the 1301 Tactical. but that said I am not biased against the M4 and would love to hear from someone with firsthand knoweledge of both.

Ya well I would rather have the M4 for the extra bucks and just have the best. I really like mine and so do most people who see/shoot it.

Honestly every time I run that gun it puts a huge smile on my face.

Thanks very much! That's mighty neighbourly of you! I'm not a CDTSA member yet. I'm usually shooting restricteds at TSE or everythign else out at the inlaw's farm down by Claresholm. How's the waiting list at CDTSA these days? I've been meaning to take a closer look now that it is closer to home.

I would say yes on the M4 if you are willing to spend the $. I took a chance on a Derya MK 12 for a fun gun. It actually has impressed me alot so far for $1000 with all the extras you get. Perfect fit and finsh. Zero failures of any kind after probobly 500 rounds. I pretty much trust it fully with my life. Although it won't cycle target loads even after full break in. Not saying its better than the M4 but if you want to blast off rounds for fun the MK12 is a good alternative semi and it's mag fed. I dare say I like the Derya more than any shotgun I have made in the U.S. and it's far better quality too.

I'm in the same boat. I had an m4. Now have an mk12. I think the m4 quality wise is better but am very happy with the mk 12
 
Lol Longboat says his MK12 has had zero failures of any kind, but then states it fails to cycle target loads !! thats a mighty conflicting post.
 
I certainly used to think that, then I got some decent rounds behind a Beretta 1301 Tactical. Both with a rifle stock, and pistol grip. It's half the price, 2/3 of the weight, and I simply can't outrun in. Short of some issues you'll encounter if too gentle with it, she'd be my buy. Just a stellar platform.
 
Benelli M4. I just got one and replaced the collapisble stock for a fixed field stock (Like The old School look) top it with a Vortex Venom Red dot 6MOA and you got a very nice reliable shotgun. can`t get any better than that and no second guessing. Vortex is lifetime warrenty.
