Is the benelli m4 still "the" shotgun to get?

Benelli M4. I just got one and replaced the collapisble stock for a fixed field stock (Like The old School look) top it with a Vortex Venom Red dot 6MOA and you got a very nice reliable shotgun. can`t get any better than that and no second guessing. Vortex is lifetime warrenty.

Ooooo where did you get the stock from? Me wanna!!

Thanks very much! That's mighty neighbourly of you! I'm not a CDTSA member yet. I'm usually shooting restricteds at TSE or everythign else out at the inlaw's farm down by Claresholm. How's the waiting list at CDTSA these days? I've been meaning to take a closer look now that it is closer to home.

You need to get on the waiting list. This year is the first year we only let people in off the list and didn’t open to the general population. I am guessing next year will be the same.

Thanks for the heads up! I should get on that so I have a fighting chance of getting in sometime in the next couple of years.

For shell holders, from what I gather esstac. Makes some of the best Velcro/hook and loop saddles. The Asgard defense looks pretty slick for a rigid setup (but I haven't been able to find a Canadian vendor). Asside from Mesa tactical, can anyone suggest other side saddle manufacturers?

If you don't want to mess up your shiny boom stick, Vang Comp makes a velcro based system that uses an aluminum plate mounted to the shotgun to hold the "gun side" of the velcro. I'm still trying to find out why the Uncle Mike's Breacher Vest isn't available in Canada.

I buy my 6 shot Velcro shell holders from ebay :) https://www.ebay.ca/itm/6-inch-Tact...d6e9f6e28:m:mt3FSu5rZuRIC6MpY9LyV-A:rk:5:pf:0

They are not as nice as my S&J Hardware ones but they do the trick !

Haha that's what I have on the side of my Versa Max. I actually like the stretchy elastic loop holders; they hold the shells securely, but they don't resist too much when you go to grab them out. And they sit flat, don't bulk up the shotgun too much.

AND FOUR BUCKS MAN Laugh2

Lol Longboat says his MK12 has had zero failures of any kind, but then states it fails to cycle target loads !! thats a mighty conflicting post.

Not necessarily. If you are trying to get something to function outside of it's design specification or without the pre requisite breaking in, it's not a failure. It's about the operator at that point. I have an M4 and read the manual and other outside related info. In many places it sates (just like with some other semi autos) that too light a load may not cycle. It's a combat shotgun after all not an upland game gun. This is one of the very valid reasons to get a pump gun. They can use more ammo types.

A tactical shotgun should be able to cycle bulk target loads if for no other reason than to facilitate practice.

Shooting buck and slugs all the time is expensive, and even if money is no object, it's a heck of a lot easier to acquire buck birdshot in quantity than buck and slugs.

Holy crap, I took out the m4 for its inaugural run. It was just ####ing around. 2 rounds of 5 station and a round of skeet, it ate everything I fed it with zero stoppages. I was even able to pull off some stupid fast double taps. I knew it would cycle fast, but damn. No shotgun has any business cycling THAT fast. I felt like I was doing double taps with an ar...

It's fun double tapping with the m4 lol. Iam taking mine to a Turkey shoot this afternoon. Hopefully I hold my own against trap guns lol

What'll REALLY get your gears going, is taking some bird shot (don't do it with buck or slugs, it's a lot of recoil!) and try to get the mag tube empty before the first shell hits the ground!

I think i can get like 2 or sometimes one hit the ground.

I know it's possible to do, but it's hard to keep your stance! It's also all sorts of extreme fun :D

...and the 1301 is one third faster.....

It's not that much of a difference, AFAIK at least not with reasonably power loads.

Fastest videoed split times I've seen with the 1300 were .09 seconds vs .10ish with the M4.

Weaker loads may favor the 1300a bit more but not many shooters are fast enough on the trigger to be able to appreciate the difference.

m4 is war proven--in reliability and durability-bar none

The M4 is by most accounts "the" shotgun. The major strengths of the 1301 (IMO) are how close on the M4's heels it is at half the price, and that it's noticeably lighter and quicker handling. The M4 is also a little ugly (if we're being honest) with the collapsible "rod" stock (when extended) and pistol grip. The M4 may be the top choice, but after having owned both the M4 and the 1301, neither one is a perfect shotgun.

I'd own the 14" M4 with a field stock in a heartbeat if Canadian laws didn't make it basically a paperweight, in practical terms. For me that's pretty much the ultimate 12g semi.

I run the M2 tactical with the Comfortech stock which has a nice gel pad that cuts the recoil significantly. So far it eats everything from standard target clay loads to magnum slugs. 100% reliable. Glad I went with the M2 over the M4. With the M2 I can put on a 24” field barrel and blast some clays and then swap back the 18” for tactical type shooting. Way more versitile than the M4. For ultimate reliabiliy the M4 would still probably be king though.

Get the 5.9 mag tube . It will hold 5 - 3 inch mags or 6 - 2 3/4" plus 1 plus 1 for 8 total . I think i got mine from S&J .

What's the 5.9 tube? I take it that's what it comes with, and when you add the S&J extension you get 6+1+1 of 2 3/4" shells?
