Is the Tavor just the Flavor of the Day?

I know the lil' lady shot it and liked it alot, and I also know said lil' lady does not like the AR much.

It being non-res means she can drop by, grab it from the safe and head off the range with the girls without me in tow (for the ATT) - no more having to listen to *bang* - 'and you know what he said' - *bang* - 'and he had the nerve to stand me up last night too' - *bang* - 'that jerk!' *bang*
:D

The Travor was designed to replace the M16 for the Israeli military. It has been proven to be more accurate, more reliable, has faster follow up shots, and is more compact then the M16. What more can you ask for in a rifle?

Sounds good. Is Nato buying them? What about Canada and the US Army, or just Israel?

Give it time, stuff eventually changes, as needs change. Also keep in mind there are ALLOT of AR type rifles in service around the world that will need to get worn out before any other system is adopted by any other Military.

Now only if this rifle came in a caliber larger then .223, then IMHO it would be a fantastic brush rifle. :)

The Full Auto Tavors are $1000, why $3000 for a semi?

We're licensed for FA. Sell me a FA tavor in Canada for $1000CDN +Tax and I'll send you a $500 finders fee.

The sight costs ~$600. $400 for the rest? Where did you see that number? Maybe a touch low?

If they were that cheap the IDF would buy them. ;)

Scarecrow,
The AR platform was indeed tested in Alaska, which is as close to Siberia as we're going to get. Cold is cold.

Cancer,
Your belief that "no one has the right to bash what they haven't owned or haven't used" is way outside your lane. My right to free speach ensures that I as well as you and everyone else has the right to comment on anything in any fashion we choose regardless of experience or qualifications. Although posting comments based on ones opinion without experience to back it up is not a great choice.

With regards to accuracy. What kind of accuracy is required by todays militaries? The AR platform provides more than enough accuracy for the role it was designed for. Striving for greater accuracy in a combat weapon is of little value. Practically all battles are occuring well within 300 yards with a great majority being no more than 100 yards distant. Anything capable of 3MOA or better is adequate for such engagements. Anything better than that is a waste of effort.

Specfire,
although many of Coyote Ugly's questions have been answered in other THREADS, I can't help but wonder about your comment. How many threads are on here about gun X vs Y and 9mm Vs 45 or the same old threads asking the same questions about "which brand of AR?" or "where to buy cheap ammo" "which handgun should I buy?" "who has M14/M305's for sale?" The list goes on and on. What I don't see is anyone voicing their concern about these repeat threads.

Cancer, I hope you research things before you buy them, like a car.

Who's complaining. It's only questions and answers(some better than others) :onCrack: .

I don't bad mouth cars I haven't test driven or owned. If I say anything negative about a car, I make it clear that my opinion is based on heresay.

I'll post the website.

http://www.israeli-weapons.com/weapons/small_arms/tavor/Tavor.html

Security sources said deals were under way to sell the weapon, retailing at $1,000, to "friendly foreign clients.". "The Tavor is probably the finest assault rifle now available. Its commando variation weighs 2.8 kg (6.2lbs) compared with the Uzi's 3.7 kg and M-16's 3.4 kg. Bullets are loaded through its stock, allowing for a snub barrel.

So what about my right to free speach? Go suck a lemon..

They say $1000 (US). I suspect that in the $3000CDN trim, you are getting a bit more than whatever the $1000 estimate was based on.

You are comparing Canadian public retail price of a small number of firearms to the USD price if a foreign army buys them in army type quantities, FOB Israel?

Unless you are a "friendly foreign nation", that's not an accurate comparison.

On what do you base the opinion that the Tavor is faster on follow up shots?? I test fired the Tavor, and the one thing [ well ... with the price TWO things ] I did not like about the Tavor, was that for me, double taps were quite a bit further apart than with a CAR 15 style firearm. I had to slow down and use the sights to get tight doubles.

Of course,
YMMV,
and I'd really need a timer, an afternoon, and a lot of ammo to truly test the theory
Can Am ...
WANNA VOLUNTEER a loaner TAVOR FOR A TEST of double taps against an AR 15 shorty??

Well, unless there are 10-round pistol mags that fit the Tavor (I didn't see any mention of it using AR magazines), it won't be the coolest non-restricted rifle in Canada. For now, I'll keep dreaming about owning a Masada.

It was designed by Israel, for Israel. I don't think any other countries are using it at this time.

Apparently from what I have read elsewhere on the web the Tavor is in service with or soon to be in service with Israel, Columbia, India, Germany, Georgia, Portugal and Costa Rica.
