Issues With BC Chief Firearms Officer

so buisness transfers are quick but private sales are the ones taking a long time?

got a tokarev from SFRC hoping its not going to take weeks to be approved

Got a call from the dealer today. My transfer was apparently approved late last night. w:h: He had a copy of the transfer notice and the STATT and said come pick it up. Now I'm just waiting for the LTATT to show up in the mail this week. Not overly happy that Monday is a holiday at the moment, no mail delivery :(

Private transfer... Started July 30th. Called every couple days. Approved Aug 7th. Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Office in New Brunswick sent BC office two emails asking them to get it done. Already had my LTATT and other restricted's.

Where do you go for counter service?

Office building right at corner of 152nd and 105 Ave, across from Guildford Mall.

3rd Floor IIRC.

Expect to be told to get out and go wait for your stuff to happen.

The "Information officers" that will address you in person are ......well I'll let you find out....

I highly suggest, have your phone recording audio or even video/audio while you go in there.

They'll try something with you and will deny everything, then you'll have that proof and also captures the tone used against you/ect.

Its perfectly legal as one party member of the conversation is aware it is being recorded, same applies to recording phone calls/ect.

Just leave it on your waist recording entire time like its just there normally.

I posted your answer right in this thread. The BC fire arms center has moved. The chap there was most pleasant n accommodating. Just bring all your stuff. Copy of your application and PAL . See link.

I know there has been some differing people posting about whether the BC CFO is federally or provincially appointed. I got an official answer from "Jessica Wolford, EA to the Hon. Shirley Bond, Minister of Justice & Attorney General" that the BC CFO "is a federally appointment..."

At one point I found a document saying that the BC CFO used to be provincially appointed (and no longer is), but I don't seem to be able to find that.

Conclusion: If you are contacting your MLA, it should be because you are suggesting that the BC CFO be appointed provincially instead of federally. Beyond that, it seems, the MLAs can't do much.

For anyone interested - I just called the CFC about the status of my restricted transfer:
- Transfer started August 9 w/ business
- Already have LTATT and other restricted

He told me for transfers from businesses, last time they received information, they were working on transfers that were initiated on July 27 but this information was received at the beginning of the month. Based on this, he figured mine would be reviewed/approved any day now ....

Hope he is right ...

Just got off the phone with BC CFO's office and they are working on applications made 29 June.

I wonder if she meant July 29th, but she did say to check back in a month !!!!

Is this for a private transfer or from a business? Do you have LTATT already in place?

The guy I spoke to seemed to indicate that business transfers went faster and I have also heard there is a delay on ATTs - and the BC CFO won't approve transfer until you have an LTATT apparently ...

Its a transfer from a business, and we filed the appropriate forms for the LTATT at the same time, along with proof of my club membership, etc.
It's my first LTATT and Restricted firearm, not that it should make any difference at all to the process.

Interesting about the different info. The only way it would make a difference is if there is a 6 week wait for LTATT approval but transfers are 2 weeks. Since they will not approve your transfer until your LTATT is approved, that could explain a longer wait maybe? Or else, one of the people we spoke with is just out to lunch ... Only time will tell I guess.

I did exactly the same thing, except it was private, and the LTATT and STATT arrived the same day...48 days later.

Once I had my ATT, the second transfer from a vendor was 5 days...including registration certificate.

Be patient is all I can say

so now I'm confused. do we apply for a LTATT before we buy a handgun? or do we have to actually go buy one then go through all the paperwork.

If I had the choice, I'd do the LTATT now, and when that arrives I'd go look at getting a handgun.

Edit: we have our RPAL's, and range membership's in place, so that's taken care of.

Well, I just applied for my LTATT on Friday the 10th of August,. LTATT arrived today. I have to say, I'm fairly happy with the speed of the CFO... I was expecting a 6 week wait, which my dad went through 3 months ago. So maybe they've sped up the process a bit?

Apply for the LTATT as soon as you have your RPAL and membership. Here in BC the CFO will not approve a restricted transfer to you unless you have an LTATT.
