Issues With BC Chief Firearms Officer

My LATT arrived yesterday.

Submitted: June 1st
Arrived: July 11th

It seems the average is 6 weeks for those of you applying for your first restricted.

Good Luck!

Mine was started June 1st too. No sign of it yet. Called friday said they were up to last days in May. Call back in a week or so. WTF?

Called them Fri July/14/2012 they said they were up to the last days in May. This does not correlate with your comment and the date of your comment. These people are full of it!!!

I'm sure they don't pay too much attention to processing these in exactly the correct order.

We all need to be contacting our MPs and/or MLAs. That seems to be our only recourse at the moment. Or is there some official ombudsman who should be contacted as well?

Done today Dontshow. Emailed my MP.

Got my LTATT and STATT in 4 weeks 5 days. Maybe times are getting faster? Brought my MP 9 home today. As before applied June 13th.
And thanks to Wanstalls for assisting me with the process.

Congrats. It must feel good holden that puppy. I put mine in 2 weeks before you and still nutten. Is it because its for my first restricted gun?

Long s/l-ATT

K you guys r scaring me!:) Just purchased my first handgun, and was told it would be a 2 week to 2 month to get transfer/ST/ATT. Ironically, I waited 85 days for my RPAL (First R, but had many FAC's (Non restricted prior) When the lass I spoke too at the RCMP Firearms center (Remember, never get mad with the person on the phone, it is not their issue with process, it probably is yours!) She got mad at the delay, and punched me through to the BC CFO. HOWEVER, it was not the BC CFO, it was NB CFO office I was talking too! There are so many delays due to large amount of RPAL/PAL requests in BC and AB, that NB has offered to help them out! The lass I talked to was wonderful (Prob because I was joking with her, and told her that whatever the issue is, it is not your fault, your just there too help me!) Turned out between original FAC, and later POL, I never put my district of birth in, but I did on my RPAL form (After just going through getting my landed immigrants status app filled out) Having my district on the RPAL is a no-no if you have had a POL/FAC in the past! When the call was ending, I apologized for wasting her time on such a trivial matter, and got a "Thank you for being so pleasant to deal with, I wish everyone was like you!" Remember, be nice on the phone, a little bit of grease goes a long way:) Good luck folks!

Officially onto week 5! After they lost my LTATT application a couple weeks ago I'm starting to wonder if that means I get to reset the clock and play the waiting game even longer now. Ugh!

This was my first restricted as well and i thought i'd be waiting longer. ( offical wait 4 weeks 5 days from June 13th) I was persistant though. I called at least 1 -2 times a week after week 2 (Mondays and Fridays), was very polite and always had my info ready. I honsetly thought i'd be waiting another 2 - 4 for my statt as a guy at my club said it was a 4 week wait for that as well. Hope things get faster for all. I mean this can't go on forever.

originally the bc cfo office lost my LTATT app 3 times in a row this was after they accepted the docs and said they were processing , had to go in person and wait on the spot for them to issue one. but this was a bunch of years ago..

So the more you buggem the closer to the top of the pile you go? OK now I know you're just pulling my leg charlie. :)

Ok maybe don't bugg'em, the squeaky wheel doesn't always get the grease, it gets slapped. I would hate to have someone get blasted for calling over and over but i was persistent. It was the same with my PAL and i got it in 28 days. Just got lucky i guess. Which would explain that horseshoe in my butt, man its hard to sit sometimes.

I just got off the phone with a really pleasant lady in NB,who is part of a team working(untill the end of july) to help clear the BC backlog. The problem, according to her,is just a HUGE amount of paperwork, and not enough people to do it.Common knowledge,I know.

She was part of the team that fixed the problem Alta was facing(seems pretty fast ,now)and seems pretty confident they could do it here too.The rub is that BC has no plans to implement the solution that solved the Alta problem.

She also informed me that there are PAL apps the BCCFO received in MARCH that are still sitting in a pile and aren't even close to being assigned to an officer for checks:eek:

If we want this nonsense to end,we all need to be sending(or resending sternly;))letters to your MP.It is a simple process, and is most likely, the only way to get the suits to pay attention.

P.S.....The lady I talked to said the BC issue is the worse she has seen...YAY!

Thanks for the info. My PAL expires in May/2013. Maybe I better put in for a renew now. haha And Charlie can I borrow that horseshoe? ....:eek::eek::eek::eek: Oh never mind.

Just got off the phone with a Gent from the Ab CFO's office, helping out the BC CFO of course, he said they're still working on processing stuff from June 6th. I am on week 5, they lost my LTATT paperwork once, I phoned in the info then faxed in my range membership. Talking to this guy it sounds like my LTATT paperwork is likely sitting on the bottom of the pile and I could be another 3-4 weeks which would put me a 2+ months in total now. I'm getting more than a little annoyed.

I just finished talking to people from my MLA's (John Horgan) and MP's (Randall Garrison) offices.

The person from my MLA's office spent a bunch of time digging around and making phone calls. He couldn't even get someone from the BC CFO's office on the phone, but he did promise to keep trying.

The person from my MP's office hasn't been able to look into it yet (it seems my first email got lost). At first he assumed it was a provincial matter because he was not aware that the CFOs are a result of federal legislation. After I explained that, he was very open to helping. He did tell me that a lot of federal programs are seeing increased delays recently because of lay-offs across the board. But he also made it clear he was just speculating and can't be sure that is the cause. He agreed that the fact that BC was the only CFO's office that had this increase in delays was very strange.

One thing that isn't clear is: who appointed Terry Hamilton as CFO? Some people claim she was appointed federally, but others say she is appointed provincially. I think having a clear answer on this (preferably with some solid sources to cite) will help direct the attentions of our MLAs and MPs.

I'd like to emphasize that both my MLA and MP are from the NDP. I have seen several comments on these forums imply that only a CPC representative will help. That is not true. Contact your MLA and MP regardless of party. Be polite. Be positive. Be prepared to explain why both the province and the federal government should be involved. And don't focus on partisan issues. This is a bureaucratic delay. All parties care about government working in a timely manner. If we just focus on the delays (instead of using the time to explain why law X should be changed), then more people will help.

After reading your post I called them. As they were on June 6th and I put in June 1st. I asked what might be the problem. He said call in a few days. So I thought what ever. Decided to go right to the office. I explained what was going on and handed him the copy of my application. He asked me if I had a few minutes? No problem I said. He returned a short time later with my long and 2 shorts. Done deal. Finanally. So I don't know where you live but if it's doable just go there with your app. w:h:
