I had a phone call from Terry Hamilton, BC CFO, day before yesterday. This was probably prompted by my letters (plural) to the Ministry of Public Safety in Ottawa and follow up phone calls. I also did get a letter from the Assistant Commissioner, Director General, CFP, Policing Support Services at the same time.
Among other things I told Ms. Hamilton the slow movement in reissuing PALs and ATTs only looked to me like it was a move to ensure the appearance to the Feds that the BC CFO office needs even more people - job security in light of the fact that the Feds announced civil service job cuts at about the same time Bill C-19 became law eliminating the Long Gun Registry.
Well two days later here it is:
Federal government issues possible layoff notices to more civil servants
OTTAWA - Hundreds more federal government jobs appear to be on the chopping block.
The union representing the civil servants says nearly 600 of its members working at Human Resources and Social Development Canada today received notices of possible layoff.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada says another 149 RCMP employees were also told they could lose their jobs.
PSAC vice-president Chris Aylward calls it another sad day for the union's members and for people who rely on federal services.
Most of those affected at the Human Resources Department are stationed in the National Capital Region.
The potential RCMP cuts are spread across the country and include forensic lab workers.
Since the 2012 budget, more than 18,000 PSAC members have received notices that they could lose their jobs.
My opinion still has not changed, especially in light of the announced 149 RCMP suppot staff jobs that will go by the way side. I don't really like people loosing their job - I experienced it some 30 years ago and it wasn't fun. However saying that the CFC and CFO offices across the country have been building Empires for decades. Perhaps the over staffing is the major reason the "gun control program" started by the Jean Cretien Liberals is more that $2billion and counting. Prior to the end of the "Long Gun Registry" PALs and ATTs were issued quickly by the BC CFO. One can only draw the conclusion I have come to.
