It's almost depressing trying to buy an AR15 in Canada

I ve been spending too much lately on ARs , got 3 new LMT s (2 stage lower , 10.5 MRP and a 16 MRP) It s depressing because i emptied the bank account but i dont have any hard time finding what i want .

Being as I'm not old enough to have participated, I gotta wondering... Did 7.62mm get called a sissy round in favour of the .50 cal back before 5.56?

It was called a lot of things in the UK when it replaced the "Real Man's cartridge - the .303" so was the "unreliable, inaccurate, overheating, POS" rifle that fired the .308 - the FN FAL. Old soldiers - the most conservative beings on the planet.

No problem finding parts to build any type of AR15 you want. Be patient and horde pieces that you find on the EE. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to put an AR together. Buy the right GI manuals, and good tooling and be patient, all the parts you need will come your way. Try not to get caught up in the flavor of the month. Experiment and you'll know what works and what doesn't. Sure the nato 308 is a better penetrating type round when shooting at cinder block and mud huts. Speed kills and the velocity of the 5.56 rnd is quite damaging to steel plates and such, but you cant compare it to a 308. Its like the 9mm/40 cal debate, that used to be the 9mm/45 debate. Shoot and have fun!

You mean anything shorter than 16" is a waste of time right? Because of lack of fragmentation? Please elaborate.

Do believe that he's saying anything longer than 16" in 5.56mm is a waste, that the 16" will do everything that a 20" can do.

Lack of fragmentation in short barrels isn't really an issue as long as you use the rifle in the proper environment, i.e. CQB.

Oh right, couldn't get my noodle wrapped around it late last night:redface:.
