Yes i love the logic of our laws, says valmet is a true ak47 and non restricted yet say a semi auto soviet rpk would be prohib same action same configuration but prohib. Im actually positive they prohib guns by looks alone mostly. The type 97 uses a similar bolt ( rotating short stroke piston) and is not an ak varient even tho it operates similar in a sense, clearly cosmetic features make ak varients

I heard it had more to do with the fact that the Canadian gvt. Bought valmet Hunters for the First Nations and Inuit of the north. Later on whence the lists of guns that could not be owned started being drafted up these had to be omitted. The gvt. Would be up poop creek without a paddle if they made all the guns illegal that they had just provided the inuit and first nations with. So the Valmet hunter was omitted from the AK variant list.
Couldn't have our gvt. be legitimately labeled as indian givers now could we.

little update,

Took the valmet out to the range today and cant believe how amazing this thing is to shoot. Groups around 1"-2" MOA at 50y WITH rapid firing. Didnt take it to the 100y as I just wanted to get a feel for it. Trigger is actually really crisp for a rifle of this style.
Heavy but easy to keep on target when shooting from a standing position.

Just a big riot to shoot and the way people stare in amazement thinking it was an RPK, too funny.

I have a video of me blasting it off but cant seem figure out how to embed it on here. Ill keep trying.

Wish I had an M78 in any calibre. A M78 and an RPD both in 7.62x39 would be too cool.
