It's up to you to arm the Canadian Forces...which sidearm do you supply them with?

Jericho 941s in 9mm. Solid steel frame and slide (nice and heavy for effective pistolwhips), DAO and has a safety (for all those Air Force types), external hammer, easily takes down, transfer bar, double stacked mags, rail, better than those POS Tupperware guns for durability and relatively inexpensive.

Design has the rails running the entire length for more distributed hold on the slide increasing wear life. Medium sized spur to help people avoid bits. Quick (short) reset trigger. safety decocks. Polygonal rifling.

Just looked over the MERX Profile for the tender board and they only had it open for 45 days, here's to hoping they solicited all the good companies for bids.

If I were going overseas I'd want one.

Is this thread the "which pistol meets the GSP requirements" thread, or the "which pistol would you choose for the CF" thread?

If it's the "which pistol meets the GSP requirements" thread, it should have stopped about 77 posts ago.

The service requirements would have excluded almost every damn pistol out there. And mandated 9mm. If I recall correctly, Sig or FN or HK were the only possibles, and longshots given the need for them to be licensed or manufactured in Canada.

So, on the assumption that the service requirements were ludicrous, keep it simple. +12 for the G17. If we could get around the 9mm issue, then maybe the FN FiveseveN.

I'd prefer an FNX-9. Light polymer slide with accessory rail, da/sa, high capacity, fully ambidextrous, available threaded barrel, and has a frame-mounted safety/decocker that goes to safe without decocking.

I'll also echo the previous mention of the HK P30 for the same reasons.

Heck, I wouldn't mind a Taurus 24/7 G2 if it was built by Colt Canada. It checks the same boxes as FNX and P30 (except for threaded barrel) without an external hammer to get caught or gunked up.

I'm going to have to recant my statement about the G17. On Tuesday I revisited the MP9mm and I forgot how nice that trigger is and how nice that smaller backstrap/grip combo is. Good for all the girly officers and tank commanders haha. Either a G17 or MP9. Both would be nice.

I actually prefer the "feel" of the trigger to my G17.
what is it you don't like.

it honestly feels (the trigger that is) cheap, plasticy, and rickety (because of the two piece hinge thing it has) to me. I like the idea of the M&P9 more than I like the M&P9.

Anything current. They all work just fine.

+1.

Handguns are in the big scheme of things cheap, not that important a weapon, easily available from dozens of suppliers, simple to maintain and easy to replace if something goes wrong. Pick any firm that's been in business for 20 or more years to ensure they're likely to be around tomorrow. Insist on the right to make parts on an if-and-when basis. Buy 25 of each and issue to real troops (including boarding parties) vice anybody in Ottawa; listen to their recommendations. Cut a cheque. Problem solved.

Considering I'm ex military the browning high power did just fine. But I would not trust anything other then a sig or the hp.

Actually I was very surprised that while CZ platform is popular in Canada as a range gun for civilians, not many recommended that platform for troops. Glock dominates.
Is it because CZ has East block roots ?

Same reason cops like Glocks. You gotta carry a metal frame gun all the time.... S+W 5900 series is like carrying a brick in your pocket....

I'm gonna go with the Glock. But change it up just a little. Little more range, velocity and accuracy would mean choosing the 34 instead of the 17. And the triggers better.

Why is that? Everyone I know with a Sig Pro is impressed by them.

Doesnt mean it's any good. If you create a poll of what pistol you would depend your life on. I bet majority would vote for a Norinco because thats what they own and they think it's gods gift to man and that anyone is stupid who spends over $400 on a pistol.

In case you didn't know, the requirements for the General Service Pistol ruled out the Glock too so sorry Glock boys.

I think this thread is just a opinion of what YOU would pick, regardless of the GSP requirements. As anyone who knows the GSP requirements knows that NO pistol fit the requirements and that is why the RFP was cancelled.

IIRC the HiPower we've been using since '44 is a single action design, what's wrong with that?

I like the idea of the 1911 platform simply because it is relatively inexpensive, easy to make, and claw-hammer reliable.

Inexpensive! I doubt that compared to the polymer guns?

Take Care

I agree with everyone their all great firearms. However, if it were my choice I would agree with OP the CZ 75 SP01. cou:

wtf a cz ? the only gun the military should get is a gun that's been proven time and time again, and that's the glock. No, i'm not a glock fanboy, I really don't care for them at all, I have one because I know it's reliable. I wouldn't want anything less for people that put their lives on the line.
