I watched part of this Carmel video that interested me. Here are my takes:
1) Like the Makasi - this Camel handguard is NOT designed to be taken on and off for the heck of it and after every single range trip that fires 50 rounds. I personally will not take this hand guard off and ritually clean the gas system for ADHD reason. Think this is a commercialization decision - a military version will not tolerate anything that needs users operating 3 little screws to remove - especially for Latin american and indian users. There is no need to take apart the gas system all the time, but people will be tempted to do it all the time.
2) The push rod has another bridge pinned to the barrel for guiding and retaining the recoils spine, instead of a completely captive push rod spring assembly from the barrel. This reminds me of the old Magpul / Bushmaster ACR somewhat. The question is why -think one of the reasons is probably to make sure if the barrel is off at an angular angle the push rod won't install and therefore create an automatic rejection to the assembler.
3) The gas system is much more KISS and looks like it vents to the front - Compared to the Makasi. It is the standard way of doing gas regulator.
4) I tend to prefer architecture with a well defined receiver of a close and continuous cross section geometry. Something even like Bren 2 with an aluminum fangs sticking out tend not to be my favourite. The plastic and aluminum pieces in my opinion make things complicated. Elon Musk will not approve this, yes it works
