J-B Bore Paste Substitute

I have tried the CLR method that Eric Cortina uses and it works very well. After you are done using the CLR do not forget to swab the barrel out with alcohol, not the kind that you drink.

X2. This works better than anything but watch the video and dont get it on stuff like some stock finishes as its actually LC-30 acid. Also thouroughly clean and flush with Isopropyl alcohol anything it may contact.

Using carb out and it does not seem to be doing much, pretty disappointed

Either that or the barrel is shot out, which honestly I wouldn’t doubt

I can see rifling in the barrel but if I look at the bore with a light from the front it looks damn near smooth bore

Okay I changed my mind about carb out.

I found an 8mm copper brush in my gun cleaning tote. I let carb out soak for 20 mins, brushed the hell out of it and ran a patch through. Came out black

Finally some headway; I’ve been cleaning with hoppes and a nylon brush (super unusual for me; I usually just use patch out on rifles)
and wipe out and everything was coming out “clean”. Even did a few patch out runs following the 5 min soak patch method with no results.

If I can get this thing to look less like a shotgun bore and finish the ~800 rounds I have left I will be a happy camper

It's not the carb out that's working its the bronze brush. If there's a lot of carbon you will still need to use jb or you will be brushing forever. Which I have done before with no harm at all to the bore. The jb also doesn't seem to harm the bore although I only use it when the carbon is adding up

Yeah it’s getting to be a fools errand, I cleaned it for hours and hours last night and came to that conclusion

I need something abrasive for sure, it is caked on

I am still trying to find something abrasive for it

I’ve been very busy so it has been sitting in the safe since I ran out of patches. You can kind of see the rifling now!
