J-B Bore Paste Substitute

I have tried the CLR method that Eric Cortina uses and it works very well. After you are done using the CLR do not forget to swab the barrel out with alcohol, not the kind that you drink.

X2. This works better than anything but watch the video and dont get it on stuff like some stock finishes as its actually LC-30 acid. Also thouroughly clean and flush with Isopropyl alcohol anything it may contact.

Using carb out and it does not seem to be doing much, pretty disappointed

Either that or the barrel is shot out, which honestly I wouldn’t doubt

I can see rifling in the barrel but if I look at the bore with a light from the front it looks damn near smooth bore

Okay I changed my mind about carb out.

I found an 8mm copper brush in my gun cleaning tote. I let carb out soak for 20 mins, brushed the hell out of it and ran a patch through. Came out black

Finally some headway; I’ve been cleaning with hoppes and a nylon brush (super unusual for me; I usually just use patch out on rifles)
and wipe out and everything was coming out “clean”. Even did a few patch out runs following the 5 min soak patch method with no results.

If I can get this thing to look less like a shotgun bore and finish the ~800 rounds I have left I will be a happy camper

It's not the carb out that's working its the bronze brush. If there's a lot of carbon you will still need to use jb or you will be brushing forever. Which I have done before with no harm at all to the bore. The jb also doesn't seem to harm the bore although I only use it when the carbon is adding up

Yeah it’s getting to be a fools errand, I cleaned it for hours and hours last night and came to that conclusion

I need something abrasive for sure, it is caked on

I am still trying to find something abrasive for it

I’ve been very busy so it has been sitting in the safe since I ran out of patches. You can kind of see the rifling now!

Honestly at this point I think something serious is required

I thought it might be pitting, but it is protruding lol. I clean with wipeout and I guess the buildup has been cumulative. The gun has peep sights and I just shoot steel with it but I’m starting to notice accuracy bleeding off. I thought it might be shot out till I borescoped it

Wasn’t aware you could order from Brownells to Canada so may go that route
Fine grade valve grinding compound would work, but I'd go easy. - dan

Reliable carries JB and kroil..
Edit: currently out of stock on the JB according to the website but I did see some on the shelf at the downtown location about a month ago. Call and ask maybe.

For deep cleaning I use Kroil and JB bore cleaning as well as Bore Bright, depending on severity of build up. However I have a bore scope to aid me with decisions. One of the most valuable tools I've ever purchased. It can be used to save you lots if you pre-inspect guns at the store.
I spray a little Kroil into the barrel then brass brush it and let it soak. I repeat this a few times over a one day period of soaking before running a few patches then inspect with my camera. If the JB is needed based on inspection I start with the Kroil and brush. Then taking the brush I wrap it with a patch and apply the JB with my finger working it into the patch and bristles. I will work the JB Kroil combination back and forth counting the strokes mostly to remember how hard it is to get clean. When I think it may be clean enough I point the barrel down into a bucket and spray Crud Buster through it then compressed air. Then Kroil and clean brush a couple passes, then patch it out again and inspect. There are tons of ways guys do this but it really can bring some life back to a barrel and works the charm if your stripping out jacket copper so you can run mono copper bullets. If you can ask around to see if you can borrow a bore scope or just do the amazon thing like me and get a Teslong it's a really good time and money saver in the long run. Cheers
