Anyone know of a substitute for JB bore paste available in Canada?

I have a barrel with 1000’s of rounds of steel case non corrosive 7.62 and it has carbon in it that hoppes, brushing and wipeout cannot remove

Asking here because I know that precision guys like the paste. Not interested in the 55 dollar tubs on amazon.

Thanks

A solvent that's made for removing carbon may help. There are many available, including Bore Tech C4 Carbon Remover. Desired results may be obtained by applying the solvent to a bore mop and running it through the bore, letting it sit for a time. Then brush with a bronze brush.

For an alternative, there's Remington 40-X Bore Cleaner. According to the manufacturer,

Remington 40-X Bore Cleaner is a non-eroding bore cleaner made with earth suspension in mineral oil. Improving your accuracy by removing carbon and other debris that can affect the mechanical action, it is environmentally safe and is non acidic. Natural abrasives scrub away all types of fouling but will not scratch even the finest bores, leaving your bore sparkling clean without time-consuming soaking.

Honestly at this point I think something serious is required

I thought it might be pitting, but it is protruding lol. I clean with wipeout and I guess the buildup has been cumulative. The gun has peep sights and I just shoot steel with it but I’m starting to notice accuracy bleeding off. I thought it might be shot out till I borescoped it

Wasn’t aware you could order from Brownells to Canada so may go that route

An acquaintance advises very good results with a product from Mercury for marine engines - to dissolve / remove carbon build-up. I have never used it, but I have used "Clean-R-Carb" from Canadian Tire (?) or maybe NAPA (?) a few times - seems to dissolve the crud nicely. I have not used that in regular using guns - mostly is literally "rusty / crusty" elderly former mil-surps that likely have never had any cleaning or maintenance in past 50 or more years.

Like OP mentions - I also use a lot of foaming Wipe-Out - I put the rifle horizontal in a vise or gun cradle, give the bore a shot and let it do it's thing overnight or all day - so like 10 hours or more, in there. For very dirty and/or elderly bores, is not uncommon to scrub with a newish bore brush before the first patch - as if the mechanical scrubbing loosens up some of the stuff that has been softened by the WipeOut soak. In some cases, might have to repeat that cycle 4 or 5 times before getting a clean, but wet, patch to come out.

And like the OP, I often take a look in there with a bore scope - always amazes me that what I think is a decent enough "shooter" and "hunting" rifle has so much pitting / cavities within the grooves and on the side of the rifling. I still do not know how to predict by looking at the bore, which one will or will not shoot "good enough". I also have looked into unfired Schultz and Larson, and an unfired McGowen barrel, so I think that I know what a good barrel should look like in a bore scope.

I use simichrome in place of jb. Benchmark barrel’s recommends it for removing bad carbon.

Plenty-o-patches also sells JB Paste - located in southern Alberta. You'll have to give them a call to see if they have it in stock.

Soak it in carbonator cleaner
If you have a friend at a big shop
Stick it under the parts basket grid and leave for
a week

OP,
Lap the bore w/ silicon carbide(oil based) lapping compound w/a patch & jag.

Rem 40X-Witches Brew is a blend of solvent & lapping compound.

JB's,Isso will equate to tennis elbow prior to a clean bore.

Shaving cream/foaming-bore cleaners is the culprit of your current situation...Sorry You Drank that KoolAide.
