WOW!!...that IS a nice Rash...better than most.

The Tok is a nice beat-up 1941 dated piece(probably used to execute more Russkies than shoot Jermans)

The C-96...dont even ask what it cost me. Its minty-fresh/NRA perfect/LNIB with the original stock it was sold with.

Just recieved it this weekend.

It's a 1940 Terni Carcano 91/38.
18 rnds of Italian surplus 6.5 Carcano fmj.
The sling is one I had kicking around, but my surplus Carcano sling is on its way.

Also a 1907 Bayonet for my SMLE (not shown).

You guys got some nice ones this month. My recent purchaces will probably be in the ee forum if the pics someone are emailing me look as good as I think they will.

Pistol Pete - That's a real SMLE target rifle, with the extra forend band. Do you know the history of the rifle? It was undoubtedly used in competition. If you can find out who used it, you might even be able to track the scores shot with it in competition.

Target Rifle

Sorry Tiriaq, no history on that one. The serial number is: 229xx. It's well marked by Alex Martin and is all matching and in very, very nice shape with Parker Hale target sight complete. The purchase was rather messy and took almost 6 months. I doubt I'll get any info on it now.

This one however, I do have the history on:

m75ppx.jpg

It was used at Bisley in 1905 and was the winner with a perfect score! I have access to the newspaper articles and some of the trophies and badges of Morrice. It's still a great shooter too.

It's beutifully marked on the silver plate on the butt as follows:

PRESENTED TO
Pte W. MORRICE
BY THE
OFFICERS, NON COMS & MEN
OF "A" Co. 1st P.W.R.F.
On the occasion of his departure
FOR BISLEY
1905

Here it sits below the SMLE and above an original Canadian .303 Martini marked to the R.R.C.I. (Royal Regiment of Canadian Infanty) one of 1000 bought by Canada in 1893 and received in 1894 to test the "new" Commonwealth cartidge. As far as I know it's the only known one left. (Pg 37. The Military Arms of Canada Historial Arms Series #1. The Upper Canada Historical Arms Society 1981). I hesitantly paid $1500 for it years ago but now I am very pleased to own it. At the bottom is a nice near complete Snider marked "M.S." to the Musketry School (missing nipple protector).

I have a Martin/BSA commercial target rifle that I restored - some dingbat had sported it for a deer rifle. Bought the sported rifle and 5A rear sight at the same time. Prelinary testing after rebuild indicates that it IS accurate. SN 344XX. Nice MLE! I have a similar rifle - a LSA commercial with a silver plaque "The Gregory Prize - Bisley - 1899 - Won By ......". Contacted the NRA of the UK and learned that it had been won by Capt. AD Cartwright, 8th Royal Grenadiers, of Toronto. Ted Molyneux, Historian of the NRA, sent copies of the prize list for the Gregory Match, with the scores of the entrants. Cartwright won the Governor General's Prize in Ottawa in 1898. When I was competing at Connaught summer before last, I was able to look up the original annual report for 1898, and see Cartwright's scores. He also shot in England for Canada in 1888. Was also able to get a page from the London Illustrated News from July 1899, with a photo of the Canadian Kolapore Match team. One of the shooters is holding a MLE with a silver plaque - but its not the Gregory rifle, a different prize rifle. Cartwright was in a Grenadier unit, and one of the men in the photo is wearing a crossbelt with a matchcase, so I am sure that that is Cartwright. Have not been able to find any further information about him. He was a Lieutenant in the '80s, so I assume he was born in the '60s, so he could have lived into the 1940s. Too bad the history of your SMLE is lost; rifles like this were used by Canadians at Bisley into the early '60s. At any rate, you have shared photos of some fine and historically significant rifles. Thanks.

Bisley

Sounds like a very worthy save!

When I get my hands on the rest of Morrice's stuff I'll do a nice post of it all. The SMLE came with the sling that is stamped "Bisley Works" over a large "G" and the leather muzzle cover.

I love the old stuff and am very sure I was born about 100 years too late. They kept such fine records and the medals and awards were so well made, silver of course. There was a fine collection of Canadian shooting memorabilia on e-bay a few months ago from a Father-son shooting family from out West. Mid 1800's. The medals were fantastic and both of thier shooting log books were included. I was able to get the father's pearl cufflinks and tie tack, everythig else was very expensive and I was sorry to see it broken up. The cufflinks are fantastic and come in a nice little box. Hopefully they will bring me luck.

Spent some money I didn't have!
Fell in love with my first Enfield, a Longbranch 1942 all matching, appears just like the day it left the factory!

And then this German K98 rifle that was to be sent to Portugal in 1941, all matching, looks like it has never been fired other than tested. Way out of my league here too!

You must have friends in high places to score like this. Minty milsurp...I want.

Thnaks Gentlemen! I had to "fight" for the Port K98, and the Longbranch (which I don't know the first thing about!) I picked up on the Gunnutz forum. Sadly, my .45 will have to wait, unless I can wrange a trade out of someone. Thanks again Gentlemen,
Joe
