January Purchases

Thanks Ron very much, it's not bad news at all. Someone on the Enfield forum gave me the news as well. Stiil ihave to say I am very pleased with it and now have a new love! Thanks again:)
Joe

P.S...And the Port, well I was told it was an estate item from here in Calgary, but when I picked her up, I saw it was actually brought in from New Mexico. Thanks again Ron!

Joe- hate to bear bad news, but that '42 LB is a 1950's FTR, not an original as-issued piece. A new 1942 would be waltnut stocked with either a Mk2 or Mk3 sight, not a Cmk3 (1944 introduction). Also would have been cuastic blued, not parkerized (post-1950 practice).

Nevertheless, a stunning refurb!

That Portugese is beautiful! Very few stayed so new after they got to Canada back in the 80's! Many are now very nice custom sporting rifles - sadly.

No problem! It's nice to be able to tell people things they didn;t know before :) As I said though, both are stunning and I wish I had examples as nice :)

I feel your pain. I got one from Doug that looks to be the twin of the one in your pic. ;)

The gun looks correct with the US marks

But....I think the shroud may be a reproduction. They should have 6 rows of holes...not 4

I found this on another site.

The 4 row 19 hole shield appears to have been substituted for the 6 row 29 hole model from between December of 1941 to February 1942 to the end of production "U.S. Winchester Trench and Riot Guns by Joe Poyer".

His other books are listed here http://www.gunbooksales.com/collct2.htm I assume he knows what he's talking about. I have not read the book, nor do I own it....I just offer this as the possibility that my shroud may be correct also.

Sold one (Thanks Klunk). Bought two (Thanks MrClark and Hitzy)

I had a Mosin 91/30 already and really wanted the P14 but for the price, I'll take both...:)

Made a few purchases this weekend at the Regina gun show. I had a table over at the side, and had made inquiries with a couple of dealers for a Liberator pistol. Sure enough, by the end of the day, someone showed up to see if we could work a deal. He had bought it new, but had thrown away the origional box, wooden reloading dowel, and the instruction sheet. He had fired it once, but didn't like the way it almost snapped off his wrist. We agreed on the price, and I was going to get it to a local dealers establishment to have it deactivated (it's a 12-6 and I'm not). But by the end of the show I had a change of heart and traded it to that dealer as part exchange on a mint (the frame rails are still black, not even holster wear, and 98% of the origional decal on the grip) Inglis no2mk1*.
I also struck a deal with a local guy on the nicest BSA 1945 no4mk1(T) complete with the nicest transit chest (still with the leather handles) I have ever seen. The label on the lid of the case has no tears and is still white, likely aided by the bag of dessicant which was in the box. The scope and mount are all matching with perfect optics, the leather sling is uncracked, and the canvas scope case looks like it has never seen the field. It even still has the paper directions still taped to the back of the scope case.

He had bought it in the 70s for $125, so was as happy as I was with the agreed on price (which I will not disclose so you guys won't hate me, but suffice to say neither of us got screwed).
From the same guy I also bought seven Cno7 transit chests, which were full of parts from stripped fdown Cno7s. This included around 30 sets of upper wood, about a dozen complete buttstocks, around 20 sets of the bands, 3 origional cleaning rods, but only 4 lower forestocks. Lots of other minor parts too.
Also bought a full wood DP marked LongBranch no4mk1*, which I'll deactivate.

There was also a decent M-4 H&R survival rifle there that I was starting to deal on, but with the expense of the 4(T), I didn't pursue it.
I'll post photos of the T later if anyones interested.

I just picked up Karl Gustaf M/96 dated 1920. All the numbers match except the front bayo ring. And no bayo, either. Condition is excellent, bore is very good. If I ever get a digital camera I'll get some pics up... ;)

My first Finnish capture Mosin! I'm hooked, damn you to the members who perpetuate the mystique of these fine rifles...oh yeah, thanks Klunk.LOL
