Jard J48 Hands On

I took my Jard to the range yesterday but unfortunately I didn't get to the range tell 8pm when it was getting dark, which caused the reticle on my optic to wash out in the dark, so it was very difficult to shoot a good group. Some of the groups shot were quite good and others not so much. I do believe I could have cut some of the groups shot in half.

I'll be hitting the 100 yd range today on my way home from work to see what I can get this rifle to do in the day light lol

As for the magazine dump it went great. I had 1x FTE during the magazine dump which I am attributing to the Norinco ammo. Which in the past has given me the same issues in some of my Ar's.
All the premium ammo I fed into this rifle worked without a hitch.

but here is the data i collected

Gentlemen

Excellent thread, Please keep up the good work!!

This platform has caught my attention as well, something that takes LAR mags, and we can legally shoot gophers with!!

It truly is a shame about the original release, however if we continue to inform each other on progress, Jard continues with good support, and the newer models continue to function well, we may have a really winner here!!

Especially if the caliber selection increases to the 308 family of cartridges.

I look forward to to you all sharing further results, and know your efforts are appreciated!!

Best regards

AbH

Last Friday I was finally able to take my Jard out and hit the 100yd range. I figured id share this with you

That group is a 5 round under 1" at 100yd, shot off a bi-pod. Its 69gr SMK handload. This is not a developed load by any means. I randomly picked a load off the Alliant powder website.

On another note I have also brought my Jard into Wanstalls for testing. So they can see how the rifle preforms with the updated parts. If all goes well we may start seeing these come back into the country.

Hopefully not wit a jacked price but the opposite. The thing is so frign ugly. Almost worse than (old school) Bushmaster Assault Rifle. I'd get one simply to cover it with plastic.

It's good to see that it's performing pretty well. Hopefully the price stays low—we need a good-quality sub-$1k Black(ish) Rifle. The pictures in this thread do make it look better than the earlier shots.

Fewer right angles on the receiver would go a long way to diminishing the "Siege of Leningrad" vibe it gives off. :)

At the range today and using new ammo. Apparently this gun just didn't like norinco ammo. It is now running flawlessly on remington umc.

Is it consistently unreliable with Nork ammo? Have you sourced a place that will custom make new recoil springs? I'd be interested. Would that help it eat nork ammo reliably at all?

Just approx 1 out of every ten rounds would malfunction. Can't figure out the cause just yet. Any spring manufacturer will custom make them but they tend to have a minimum order cost ($75 for here). I might get some stronger recoil springs made up and sell them on the EE if they work.

norinco = hot 556
remington umc = weak 223

I don't feel like that was the issue, the bolt was not closing fully with the norinco approx 1 out of every 10 rounds, so when the hammer hit the pin/bolt carrier it left a small dent in the primer of that round. I think it may have been something to do with the tolerances of the cases, or how it interacted with the feed ramps as it fed into the chamber. Just a guess.

Military ammo has 'hard' primers. Some will also make the case that you shouldn't use a 5.56 NATO in a .223 chamber. If you research the dimensions they aren't precisely the same. This is where the .223 Wylde comes in. If the bolt isn't closing and the hammer still falls you have a bigger problem.

Since it is chambered in .223 Wylde it should be able to chamber both. The bolt not closing fully with the hammer still falling is definitely a safety problem IMO. I just wont be shooting Norinco ammo out of it anymore, and will probably get a gunsmith friend to take a look for me. On the positive side it looks like I could easily add a bolt release mechanism to the rifle (not sure why Jard didn't).

Well, got it in the mail and unboxed it. Pretty neat rig! Added a setoff Tavor back up sights and my Bushnell T dot, aswell as a slip on single point sling adaptor. Thanks to Dwight42 for also machining down a picatinney rail that could be added to the forend and throwing it in for free. Dwight42 also had an upgraded trigger added at the factory, aswell as having the muzzle threaded for a flash hider. So far pretty happy with it! Won't be getting to the range anytime soon, but when I do, I'll add details. Sorry for the crappy pics.

Enjoy! I really like mine! They are very accurate, and mine now has been completely reliable on domestic ammunition (didn't like norinco ammo). A bargain in comparison to the other black style rifles out there right now.
