The worst part about those Mauser sights is that the form reflects a certain mentality about marksmanship. I was first taught how to shoot by a WW2 vet who had carried a K98, and in his opinion, since I was shooting a small group that was consistently off the centre of the target, the sights did not need to be adjusted in any way - I was just shooting very poorly!
The good part about those small, low sights however is that they are pretty much soldier-proof and also not prone to getting clogged with snow or water (as long as it doesn't have the sight hood.
