Kel tec sub 2000 Impression

shot 150 rounds had about 3 stoppages that were fte, and 3 more that were due to the safety. not sure if it was accidentally getting bumped or if it was engaging itself. overall though im extremely pleased with the gun.

My RFB runs like a top and my sub2k and my su16 have only had a couple of fte with hundreds of rounds between them downrange. Quite frankly, out of the Keltec products I own, my new KSG is giving me the most teething problems right now but I am confident it will smooth out with some tweeking and more rounds downrange.

I guess with owning four of their products it is fair to say I like them. Actually thinking of getting another sub2k just to have another :)

I just got mine, haven't shot it but I do like the idea of this rifle. NR rifle with 10rds of 9mm and takes the same mags as your pistol... what's not to like? Heck, I can put my 40cal Sig mag in and shoot 14!

Hopefully it performs well when I take it to the range. Time will tell.

As for your KSG, I don't know what ammo your using but the local indoor range has a rental one and they say their KSG doesn't like Federal slugs. They can't explain why but it is very unreliable with them but happily eats everything else they feed it.

YMMV

I'm still waiting for my KSG :(

Well, after shooting the Sub-2000, liking it's light weight, fairly good accuracy along with those .35 bullets smacking the dirt of the berm with authority, I finally broke down and pulled out the C-notes I was saving and bought one.

I worked the action about one hundred times wanting to create wear areas which would show up as bare metal. Then I disassembled it and polished the areas of the bolt and bolt head that had these signs of wear.

Soon, I hope to put some rounds down range without stoppages or at least with few stoppages.

I just shot mine... worked flawlessly. Had trouble with the sight picture at first, then I found it. I'm sure a little adjustment and I'll get it where I want it. It's good for what it is, a 10rd pistol caliber carbine. I think it's a pretty cool truck or camp gun that you wouldn't care if you beat it up a little bit... Fun little rifle. For those who don't like it, I'm sure someone on the EE will take it off your hands.

200 rounds so far and cannot get through a mag without a stoppage. Safety migrates to the "on" position every other round so the trigger cannot re-set. The rifle is a pull-bolt for half the time. Cartridges get mashed every fifth round or so.
Why are these rifles coming out of the factory if they are NS? 400 rounds for a break in? The should work before they are sold to the public.
Kel Tec is cheating us.

Some work, perhaps, but the ones I have seen have stoppages with every mag.

Teapot, sounds like the same issues mine is having, I got one day out of mine and it's been on warranty since, my safety migrates to the ON position too. I wonder of the clam shell design being too tight has something to do with it...

My Sig version works perfectly (like my Sig 226)... even with flat point target rounds.

Sounds like some of them need some tlc.

The safety thing is really weird. Mine needs a definite push and clicks in solidly. I've never had the safety move.

What ammo are you using? Mine likes 124gr American Eagle the best so far out of the rounds I've tested but will cycle 115gr fairly reliably, my handloads that cycled my 1911 feed fine but are a little on the light side so it shortstrokes with them once in a while. My next batch will be a little stronger and should fix it right up.
Try some different ammo before you condemn it.

Mine never had the stoppages you are describing but it did take a couple hundred rounds to break-in and it is getting more reliable the more I use it. Stoppages are rare now.
Most semi-auto rifles need a break-in period before they run smoothly but I think (other than the safety issue) your problems may be more related to ammo than to there being something wrong with the rifle.

Good luck

124 American Eagle seems quite weak. S&B works better. Both I let sit in the sun and that seemed to help the Am Eagle cartridges. Definitely the rifle prefers stouter cartridges which really don't exist in my area. Range fodder is usually cheap and weak.
Safety bolt migration is causing trigger re-set problems most of the time. Sometimes the safety is firmly in the "fire" position yet the trigger has failed to reset unless the safety bounced to the "safe" and back again to "fire" under recoil from the same shot. Tricky little safety gremlin.
I hope Gary gets back to me on this problem. Either the safety tube is too small as in out of spec or whatever keeps it in place is missing.

Appart from these problems the rifle is cleverly designed.

I used 147g AE flat point- worked perfectly.

I seriously doubt any hot rounds should be cycled in a blowback action... I think only regular ammo should be used.

Finally I got Remington 115 grain to function flawlessly. So far anything heavier will not work without stoppages. Perhaps it is beginning to get batter after having 300 rounds shot through it.
Handy little rifle. I wish they would make a barrel like the one in the TT-33 and chamber it for 7.62x25mm. Then it would be a two hundred yard rifle.
