Kel Tec sub 2000

The little Sub 2K gets overlooked by a lot of black rifle users. It's too "plastic", too "inexpensive", it's only "chambered in pistol calibers", blah, blah, blah.

But there is a lot to like about it:
1) It's super light weight. If you've ever slung a rifle more than an hour at a time you'll appreciate it.
2) Non restricted.
3) Foldable. I guess this is cool. I don't really think it's that great a feature, because generally you would never carry it that way. I guess it's good for transportation purposes, but it you use an optic it negates the feature.
4) It's generally reliable. Just remember there seems to be a break in period with these rifles. They run better on brass case ammo, though the more I shoot MFS through the rifle the more it seems to like it.
5) It pushes 9mm rounds to near 357 Mag velocities.
6) Ten round mags allow you to practice rifle drills that require more than 5 rounds.
7) Reasonably accurate and effective to 100 yards.
8) Reasonably inexpensive.
9) Absurdly easy to field strip and clean.
10) It takes the same mag as your favorite pistol - as long as that pistol is a Sig, Berretta or Glock.

Picked one up off a fellow CGN'r came in the beretta mag config. Cool thing is that I emailed Kel Tec about purchase of a sig mag catch so I could use my sig mags. (sig, beretta,S&W models are able to be switched out with new catch) and they shipped me out a new catch for free. That is customer service! Still waiting on catch but only takes 5 min to install and i'm using my sig mags! An easy rail solution is to purchase the universal rails on ebay, 4-5 and you have the length you need. Doesn't help with the fold after optic is mounted but looks good from the youtubes.

On a side line has anyone tried to use the foam pipe plumbing insulation as a wrap for anti cheekweld? Would be comfortable. Gonna try. I will try to post some pics of how one looks and report if it functions alright.

another simple way to insulate the tube is with a piece of vinyl, like the type used on boat covers or car roofs. Available at any fabric store. I taped a piece on to try it and it works well for comfort. now just have find a "nice" way to attach it

A couple of mods to my Sub 2K. A cheapo Center point laser in the fore arm, a Sun Optics sight and a homebrew flash hider to cover the nekked barrel. Hope the sight is somewhat repeatable when remounting.

I saw it but it shot 1500 rounds, i'd rather buy a new one, i know were to get one but was wondering if the Sig mag made a difference in reliability... JP.

Plus side of the Sig mags make it cheaper for those of us with Sigs already with existing mags so we don't have to go out and buy another brand.

They are hard to find lately as they sell very fast. I let mine go for $550 and had a pm within minutes. It's a neat rifle that I found to be very reliable so I can understand why they are so popular.
