SKS-M... detachable mag, not an SKS-D

chm-11.jpg

I think you need to read my last post more carefully.

The overwhelming majority of people refer to any Chinese made SKS that takes AK magazines as an SKS-D in Canada, regardless of model. That's just fact. Look at the EE. They're ALL listed as an "SKS-D". While it may not be technically correct, it's just nomenclature, as I said. The people define the language as they use it, like it or not. Retailers and advertisers are going to use the language of the people to sell to the people.

The SKS-D was just a poorly made commercial firearm, by a commercial company for the general public. That's all.

Sure. Chinese guns, manufactured for civilian sale, are overwhelmingly called "SKS-D".

But taking any SKS, putting it in an aftermarket stock, adding an ATI mag, and calling it an SKS-D to elicit sales and public reaction much like this thread, is misleading and no where near accurate.

You are correct, often mistaken is the MC5D sporter model as well.

I'm not arguing about quality either, I'm not even arguing lol. Just adding to the discussion. Having owned both styles I wouldn't waste another dime on either.

We are not arguing about qulity. Its a matter of legitimacy.

Its not a SKS-D.

Its like... If i buy a Honda civic... its a Honda civic... are you going to tell me its a Toyota Camry? They are different. IF you said, "Honda Civic" for sale, and sold me a Toyota Camry, you just scammed me.

Then they are wrong... and need to be corrected.

Just like "How much for the clip?" when its a magazine.

Its a damn magazine. Just correct them. They are wrong.

They clearly list it as "remanufactured" and then state in the description that it's an SKS with a bunch of aftermarket gizmos on it. What's misleading about it? If you admit that the "SKS-D" term is completely generic for the market then you must understand why they used it. The description of the listed rifles is not at all misleading.

I used to be the term and grammar police myself but at the end of the day, everyone just thinks you're an ass if you're constantly correcting them.

This thing is not a D either... Maybe Austin Powers SKS

The term SKS-D is not generic. It is a specific model. Even people unknowing misusing it, still retain the Chinese angle with the term.

When this thread got posted, for "Kodiak Arms SKS-D", my immediate hope was to find that "Kodiak Arms" was importing some new found supply of the true SKS-D model.

Bait click advertising.

The average buyer and seller doesn't care.

^ Its not about grammar, its about correct terms.

So I suppose this is a Ruger 10-22:

And this must be a SKS:

And this must be an AK-47 for sure...

^ Exactly!

It's NOT an SKS-D... Doesn't matter what 'most' of the folks in the firearms community would call it... IT'S NOT AN SKS-D!!!

Cheers

Maybe pcvando needs to phone the dealer to gripe about the advertising. I don't think anyone is going to do it for him.

Yeah, good idea. If you guys are so impassioned about it, and feel so wronged by it, do something about it.

And you've made that clear.

If only I had been able to do it in a concise way, instead of taking up 4 pages with our needless bickering.

Mission accomplished ;)

I actually wouldn't have a huge problem with them advertising these as they are, IF they accept actual AK mags. From the ad, though, I suspect they just take the same crappy duckbill mags that will fit any SKS.

"DETACHABLE AK STYLE ATI MAGAZINE" does not a "D" make, if it's a duckbill.

If "DETACHABLE AK STYLE ATI MAGAZINE" means an actual AK magazine made by ATI, then even though it's not an actual D, at least purchasers would be getting more or less what they expect.

I strongly suspect a lot of these will be received by buyers saying "WTF is this?! I thought I bought a model that accepts AK mags, not these stupid duckbill things!"

Why do I even try... I don't know why you don't have an issue with false advertising.

I am trying to help someone, to avoid getting scammed. But hey, if you buy a tacticoool folding SKS bubba special...
