Here is my Savage 17hmr for my first time painting a rifle. Combination of sponge, steel wool and a bit of gravelguard drips on top of it all.

I'll do another one soon (my hunter magpul stock) with all sponge camo I think.

The OP said other platforms, so here goes. My gopher gun Savage MKII. I've gotten some hissing and booing about it on the rimfire section but whatever. It kept me busy for about 15 minutes and it still shoots straight.

This thread inspired me to attempt a multicam job on one of my rifles. Went to CT and Walmart to grab some Krylon Fusion and neither place seems to carry it anymore. I know they both used to have it.

They did have some Rust-Oleum in the camo colors. Does anyone know if that stuff holds up as well as the Krylon?

So I am no expert, but I have heard that krylon is not the gold standard it once was. Rustoleum was recommended when I started painting guns, which suited me fine since, like you, I couldn't easily source krylon either. Don't forget the matte clear coat, I have used it on all the guns I've painted, good stuff.
