So you could take a test and carry a wheelgun? That changes my vote!

If I could I'd go with a Smith & Wesson Model 657 4". Barring that a Model 66 4". I would not feel undergunned with either.

I would be tempted to go old school with a revolver too, a 357 with holow points, maybe a s&w m&p R8?

I've never seen a cop with 3 side arms before but then again I've never been to L.A.

Go to LA, it's like the wild west, almost every patrolman has 2 guns on him, plus the 870 in every cruiser and ar15 in the trunk!

I would feel undergunned with any handgun by itself in many parts of L.A., "fight your way back to your rifle" and all of that.

I hear ya, the options cam in after the LA bank robbery which mimicked the movie Heat, plus was 2blocks down from where they filmed the longest film shoot out. They were way under gunned because the only option after the switchover in 1987 from revolver to beretta 9mm.

Probably confused and curious about why anyone would opt for the expensive .357sig when terminal performance is indistinguishable from quality 9mm, and intermediate barrier performance is worse than .40.

But that is just a guess.

G17 ..
I own a G19 and love it, but would carry 17 for duty, cause its longer barrel will help for slighlty better accuracy, and shootability with less snappy recoil than the G19.. and couple extra rnds per mag, should you be in another LA shoot out..
only slightly longer in your holster... you'll get use to how to carry the extra size.... when you need to use it, the better gun should be your choice.. not how comfortable it is when not defending life..
and reliablility to load pretty much every rnd is very important..
