Savage 110 in 338 lapua, 100 yards. Didn't wreck any usable meat so that was good.

Have been thinking about long range myself as well, then I look back over the last 20 years of moose hunting and realize the longest shot was probably 200 yards or less. Glad there was minimal damage. .30-06 can wreck some meat with bad shot placement as well, don't take a Lapua to do that. Nice rifle.

Tikka t3 lite. 300wm. 180 grain pill. 1 shot 1 kill. Like Tom Berenger in sniper.

Unlike Tom Berenger I missed a much bigger one on Minday at 450 yards. He had double drop tines. This miss resulted in an afternoon at the range with a lead sled seeing wtf was going on with the gun. It was zeroed at plus 1 inch at 100. I upped it to 3 inches at 100. No more guessing. 1 super dead deer a few hours later.

Hunting around the camp was deader than dead so far so 4 of us took a camper up country for a 4 day trip. Been planning it for a year now and took a fishing trip this spring to check the area out.

Lots of deer sign but where we only had buck tags made it a bit trickier. 1st morning I was sneaking along a skidder trail and this fella came walking right up to me.

1st time for me hunting in areas where you can see several hundred yards and I still made a 40 yard shot on the deer! Another guy got a forkhorn at 30 yards and another guy spooked a bunch of deer, 2 coyotes took chase and he bagged 1 dog. Saw lots of does too.

Last evening one guy saw a monstrous buck at about 500 yards from this spot but held off thinking if it kept travelling the same way it would pop out 200 yds from him. Never showed up. We all drove this area the next morning but the deer had moved on, oh well.

It's interesting to hear your pistol caliber experience!
With the bullet drop and penetration, do you consider your effective range around 100m?

Considering that my past 40 years of hunting has been with either a longbow, 45-70 or a muzzleloader this caliber fell well within my comfort zone. While I do compete in long distance target rifle I have never shot at an animal over 100 yards and I treat the 45ACP just like hunting with a bow because I don't want to see an animal wounded and lost. I decided that 40 yards would be max but my last two deer have been taken in dense woods from a ground blind. Last year it was hit in the neck and dropped like a rock, this one side to side and walked, not ran for 20 yards. While I missed the lung shot as he walked past fast, I took out the liver. FYI, my 45-70 was loaded with a 500 gn paper patched pure lead bullet and moose would just drop in their tracks
